FS: Original IBM case for external HDD 2.5 "

#1 Post by IJALB » Wed Jan 02, 2008 7:49 pm

I'd like to sell my case for an external HDD 2.5 ".

It's the "little black dress" for your ThinkPad! 8)

It's called "IBM(R) Portable 40 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive with Rapid Restore" and it has the the IBM logo.

There is no HDD included!
It's just the case with the cables (primary USB cable [A to mini-B] and auxiliary power cable [USB to power]), the User's Guide and Software CD, the quick reference and the carrying case.

IBM-Codes
HDD ASSEMBLY P/N: 09N4257
HDD FRU: 09N4256
Cable FRU PN: 09N4225
Made in the USA with US and non-US components.

I bought it some times ago on eBay but I never used it.
The seller told me that these kind of cases was tested with HDD up to 120 GB (ATA) but I think it should also work with lager hard disks.
I don't have a HDD and so I can't test it.
I'm also not sure if it's already used or if it's new but I looks like new.
The case has two LED and also a power switch.
It's black (like the upper side of my ThinkPad) and small.

Price: EUR 25,-- + shipping costs (prices of the Austrian Post: http://www.post.at/tarifrechner.php).
It will be shipped from Vienna, Austria after money transfer to my account (BIC and IBAN available).

Legal notice: It's a private offer without warranty and without return.

Please contact me for further questions.

P.S.: You can find the manuals (ob313mst.pdf, 73p3318.pdf) and the description (MIGR-50961.html) on the homepage of Lenovo.
It will be shipped in the original IBM package.

not trying to be negative, just want to clarify for anyone who may be interested... are you sure it's the genuine ibm part?

here you can see a reasonable placement of ibm logo:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 50961.html

compare to here, where you can see a questionable logo placement:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.780

more discussion here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=37330
and here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=19781

I bought 3 of these from dealextreme and have been quite happy with them (aside from the logo placement! and the free shipping taking forever...), but not for a second do I believe it's an authentic ibm part. (yes, mine too came with ibm packaging and manual and seal sticker... what an effort those chinese guys made!)

it is possible yours is genuine ibm part from 2003 (last year they made it) and that the seller removed the 40gb (it was never sold without drive, only with 40gb installed) I just wonder how likely is that. no offense.

also what has been discussed is the possibility some chinese lenovo/ex-lenovo factory is still producing on the same fab/tooling as the original drive cases from 2003/earlier. quite possible, I do not doubt. although I'd still wonder about the weird logo placement and the "made in usa" language.
go away.

For me it's a genue IBM part.
It looks like IBM, it's with IBM-Software, box with IBM-sealed sticker, ...

It seems to be the product of the IBM website:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 50961.html
(without the 40 GB HDD)

I can't say if this was ever sold by IBM without a HDD or not.
I also don't know in which factory it was built. Maybe the case itself is the non-USA part and it comes from China or wherever.

I also opened the case now and I see that the chipset is a "in-system, ISD300A1" (which AFAIK is the chipset of the genuine IBM part).

The withdrawal date (see IBM website) was 24 August 2004. The date on the CD is 2004.

Anyway it looks very good beside a ThinkPad.

The reason why I'm selling it is because I have already a lot of external HDD and - as you can find in my posts here - I bought a Fujitsu Siemens SOLO U-20 external HDD with a built in WD HD which I wanted to install to my T61. Because of vibrations I didn't install it in my T61 and so I have already an external 2.5 " HDD (and this is enough for me).

BTW: New Price: EUR 19,-- + shipping costs.

Small question: which material is the enclosure?plastic?metal?

It's a plastic material and it looks like and feels like the top cover (display) of my ThinkPad.
