BOUGHT: R6x or T6x in the $550~$650 range

#1 Post by asiafish » Tue Jan 15, 2008 6:16 pm

I can get a brand new R61E through NewEgg for $550, but want to see if I can get a better machine here for similar price.

My needs are modest. It must have a Vista-supported video card, either a Vista Business or XP Professional COA, have at least 6 months of warranty remaining and be in near-mint cosmetic condition.

BUSINESS or PROFESSIONAL COA ESSENTIAL, it must have offline file access, which the various "home" versions do not.

I prefer 14", but screen size is not important as it will spend most of its time hooked up to a 19" LCD. Screen resolution also doesn't really matter.

It must have built-in G wireless and at least a 2 hour battery.

Must have at least a DVD/CDRW combo drive.

Thats really it for specs. This machine will be used by a paralegal who works in two offices, each set up with docking. I am switching her from two desktops to one laptop for administration issues and to simplify her work.

I DO NOT need high resolution, Flexview or even discreet graphics, but have nothing against these features if they are present.

Most tasks are web browsing, Outlook calendar, word processing and working in Acrobat Professional.

Lastly, I need this quickly. Seller should be willing to ship immediately on receipt of PayPal payment and use a fast shipping method.

I would also consider a nice T4x/R4x/R5x if the price was right.

Thank you.

Hopefully, you saw this ThinkPad R61i at NewEgg, it will be tough to beat at $650!

Core 2 Duo, DVD Burner, 1GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, ABG, etc.

Note: I believe this model only has a TrackPoint mouse, NO TouchPad.

That one is not bad, but the Celeron does not have SpeedStep, which means it will run hotter, with fan on more often and have shorter battery life.

For the $100 up charge, you get a Core 2 Duo CPU, another 1/2 GB of RAM and a DVD burner --> probably worth it.

I had one a short while, it's quite snappy!

I'll get it if nobody pipes up today on the board with a better machine at the same price or a similar/lesser machine at a lower price.

True. I don't think I'll be able to top this one, so I guess R61i it is.
