SOLD: Atheros AR5005GS Mini PCI WIFI 108mbps Wireless Card

#1 Post by sojourner » Fri Jan 18, 2008 1:23 pm

For Sale:

Atheros AR5005GS
Mini PCI WIFI 108mbps (Super-G) Wireless Card
http://www.atheros.com/pt/AR5005GS.htm

This card supports: X22/X23/X24/X30/X31/X40/X41/T23/T30/T40/T41 /T42/T43/R40(PM)/R50/R50E/R51/R51E/R52/R52E and most other laptops, like Toshiba, Dell ..., not for HP or Compaq.
I used it briefly (bought it new) in my T41 but had to go to a different card. Why? Couldn't find drivers for Win98SE (see SIG)!

This card will NOT give your Thinkpad a boot error (no-1802 BIOS hack needed)!

Card is an excellent performer however I must mention the following:
It is NOT an IBM card, thus IBM provides no software. You need to use Atheros software! Because of this your wireless LED (green antenna light) and Fn+F5 likely will not work (IBM software needed), however Atheros software provides a systray icon which allows you to quickly turn the wireless ON/OFF (thus replacing Fn-F5). Most TP users put up with this because after all, you have a superior card, it's an ATHEROS!

Here's a software link:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownlo ... 34004.html

These drivers work with W2k,XP,Vista and they are MS approved (WHQL)!

Price shipped: $28
Paypal, money order, bank check

Hmmm, could you tell me what it would take to build it into my T30? I'm currently using a PC-Card adapter, but it would be nice to have it built-in....

TIA
Sc.

remove the keyboard and plug it in and then you're good to go.

(well that if your T30 is "wireless upgradable" - which means it comes with all the antenna's already inplace, you'd just have to plug them into the card)
