SOLD! A31P, fully restored by IBM, warranty, museum quality

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 7:25 pm

OK, what on Earth is he talking about now?

The basics:

ThinkPad A31p 2653-R8U

Original description:
P4-M 2.0GHz
256MB RAM
40GB HDD
15 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD
16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD
Modem(CDC)
Ethernet(CDC)
IEEE 1394
IBM Secure Chip(TCPA)
TV out
Li-Ion battery
WinXP Pro

What do I mean by "fully restored":

- new motherboard
- new LCD
- new plastics (palmrest, keyboard...)
- new HDD
- fresh factory install of Windows XP

All of the above has been performed by EZ Serv yesterday (01/21/2008), and I have the paperwork to prove it.

The laptop is covered by IBM warranty through November of this year.

Needless to say, this is as close to new as any A31p will come, almost five years after the production has ended. The only part that shows some wear is the LCD cover (lid), and it is still in above average condition.

Unless you can find a machine that has never been turned on, your chances of owning an A31p in better shape than this one are slim to none. I'm perfectly serious when I say "museum quality".

The price:

I've been selling good through excellent A31p machines anywhere from $400 to $550 lately, and have sold quite a few of them at these prices.

Asking price for this one is $650. I may consider a partial trade for a 15" T43 or T43p, and add $$$ in the process (this applies to T43p only).

I'll be glad to ship this laptop anywhere a fellow A31p buff is willing to pay for it to arrive.

Why aren't you keeping this one for yourself?

Because I happen to have another machine from the same batch that has been similarly treated by kind people of IBM... :D

Feel free to contact me for high-resolution pictures, or with any questions/concerns that you might have. Be forewarned that no pictures will do this beauty justice, though.

Thanks, Sri...however, it seems like the holiday season has minimized the number of potential buyers for this rarity...

First and final bump before eBay.

Oh, wow. I wish I had the cash to buy this and actually start a ThinkPad Museum. (Anyone know a source for a pristine condition 600X?) It seems almost a waste to use near-mint condition classics, just like driving in classic cars...

Anyway, good luck with the sale. And BTW, the R50p I bought from you a few months back is performing its duties fantastically. The CPU also undervolts pretty well :)
