To 7thsky or to Malaysia? Shipping to Malaysia is possible, however, I have no idea how affordable it will be for you though since you will bear the cost.

I have seen this a few times now...
what specifically does 'n-disabled' mean?
or more importantly, what is involved in enabling it?

PM replied to.

I have also been looking around for any explanation for the "n-disabled" in the description - could have called Lenovo as well but reading is more fun than waiting on the phone line. From what I have gathered the antenna for the n-band frequency is pre-installed but the wireless card doesn't support that standard. Changing to a compatible abgn card will provide the n capability. If I am wrong some please correct me.

hi syedj!

i wish i m in 7thsky!.. malaysia fedex quoted me a US$200+ tag for full insured 1okg notebook shipment of that value. US fedex might quote a slightly/totally different figure i wouldnt know. anyway, i saw that deal is pending on this one, so i guess it'll be in safe hands soonest. thx again.

You guys may want to consider USPS instead of FedEx and UPS...

Thanks George. I also have had much better experience with USPS for shipping everywhere, including Europe and Australia.

As have I, having been the recipient of a USPS Priority Mail International-sent laptop a few weeks ago (not from syedj, but forum member hamrad). Any buyer would be happy to know that such parcels are tracked with a guaranteed arrival date to some countries, and that you can subscribe by email to updates on the location of your item. You'd be up for about 1/3 of the price that FedEx quoted, 7thsky.

Yeah, because it's subsidized. But "better job" is pretty subjective.

Funnily enough, depending on where it's going and the route it will take, FedEx and UPS will be doing some/most of the actual shipping.

not subsidized...

Correction: The post service isn't subsidized:

http://www.nalc.org/postal/perform/self ... #subsidize

It's been quite a while since the USPS has been subsidized by the taxpayer.

One could argue that FedEx/UPS have skimmed away the higher revenue/profit packaged parcels business precisely because they don't have to provide universal delivery service.

I didn't go into any detail because this isn't the place. The USPS still enjoys monopoly by law on first-class mail, which is, in effect, taxpayer subsidy. UPS, FedEx, and others would kill to get their mitts on that business. Furthermore, UPS and FedEx didn't "skim" that business--for years they were forbidden from even that...
