I am looking for some input into pricing a T23 for sale. What's this machine worth?
T23 2647-9LU
XP Pro installed
PIII-M 1.13GHz
640MB RAM
40.0GB 5400 RPM HDD
14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
Internal 802.11b/g wireless (Intel)
Modem
Ethernet
IBM Secure Chip
TV out
Li-Ion battery
AC Adapter (4.5A)
What's been done to it - brand new backlight, done by James from this forum. Brand new T30 Li-Ion battery 4.4AH. New keyboard.
Condition - 9.5 out of 10. No scratches on the top cover or LCD. No dead pixels, no LCD issues. I don't know that I'd call it mint condition, but it is a close second to it.

Looks like an excellent T23. Is the COA for Windows XP?

Considering eBay pricing and prices on here, plus the ugrades/options, $300.00-350.00 would probably see it disappear really quick. I'd actually expect this to go for over $400.00 in an auction atmosphere.

P.W. - Nope, win2K. I can put win2k on it as an alternative.

I pretty much agree with this Harry. Sounds good. When you put it up for sale some pics would help....

Thanks Ron and Phaser. I'll post some pictures on Wednesday, and price it in the range you mentioned.

I doubt it. Considering that most lower end T4x systems can be had in this price range ($300+) I don't think a T23 would sell. I'm thinking more in $200-275 range. Most T2x systems are under $200 now. These are Craigslist/forums prices, eBay might fetch a little more but imho $400 is unrealistic.
I sold a T42 recently. It did have a small scratch on the SXGA+ screen but sold for $320 and it was still definitely better than a T23, scratch or not.

T23 still has a huge following as a model, and ones with these specs are very hard to find. I've sold one here months ago for close to $400 if I remember correctly...
If it were mine I doubt I'd consider any offers under $350.
Great machine that needs the right buyer.
Best of luck with the sale, Harry.

I agree that the average laptop user would rather buy a T4* in this price range. But Thinkpad enthusiasts would be willing to spend >$300 on this T23, because they know that the T2* is more reliable than the T4*, and that a near-mint T23 with these specs is getting very hard to find -- the rarity increases this unit's value.
I say start with $380 shipped and see what happens.

Harry, thats an awesome T23, looks almost similar to mine. I am very partial towards the T2x after owning a T22 and a T23 now, I'd have happily paid atleast $300 if I had the money - considering that it is near mint, I think it is easily worth more.

With SXGA, internal wireless, & a new backlight . . . .dang . . . . that stuff alone would cost you $200.00 easily to add to an existing T23.
Harry . . . if you could bump up to 512, (or better yet, 1gig) of ram, this would be a kick-butt system.
Just wish I had more spare money . . . .

How do you guys find the prices on these laptops and how do you sell them? I try selling T20's for $100, T42's for $300, and finding a buyer isn't easy. I see some comparable laptops sell for over $100 more. I don't get it. If I were selling the T23, I would personally price it around $170 or $200 at most depending on condition.

babyman1737, HarryC has been selling here for a while now, people just know him better. Also, this T23 is a really good one - one of the best models available with all the bells and whistles. The machine is in mint shape as well with a new backlight/keyboard ... As been mentioned before, this is an enthusiast's machine.
And I will add that your prices were excellent ... just give it time.

The best I can say . . . T23's seem to be in a class by themselves and have a very loyal following.
BTW . . I think Ray is their leader.
