1600x1200 T42p For Possible Sale

I have a T42p that's out of warranty. It's has a 1600x1200 screen (in very good shape as got replaced about 8 months ago). It's has 2GB memory (came with 1, added 1).
But it has one major problem, the power jack (i.e. the receptical) is going, which means that it can work on AC, but it goes in and out (hoping it didn't kill my battery).
Wondering what people think this is worth, as I have no idea on how to valuate it.

well, jamiphar contacted me over PM about getting it fixed for what I feel is a decent price (thanks). Once its fixed I'd still be open to selling it, but less of a rush.

I am unable to answer your question in terms of an actual suggested selling price, but I would like to provide a few suggestions: The broken DC jack is a problem which has been seen before, and there are several shops who offer to repair it, e.g.
IBM ThinkPad T42,T40,R50,R50e,X21,X41 DC JACK REPAIR or "our own James" here on the forum (user
jamiphar -->
LCD CCFL Backlight Repair/Replacement - I'll fix it for you! who runs the small "two brother" company
Arndt Computer Services - see their add at the top of this page! Note in the "CCFL" thread the
outstandingly good customer feedback that James is continuously receiving... this says it all - no need to look elsewhere for a more qualified or more friendly service partner!). Hence, I suggest you consider having yout T42p fixed, before posting it for sale.
T42p's these days are going at around $500 at eBay; check e.g. the following very recently completed auctions: Item # 180216768938, 110224930754 and 250215019912 - note that these are all being 15" UXGA FlexView/IPS as yours, but in contrary to your all said to be in excellent condition.
Yesterday, a forum member posted over in the
T4x forum information about how to buy "IBM Certified Used Equipment" T42p's (model 2373-C96 being a high-end 2.1 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 15" UXGA model with finger-print reader) at $516, and even with 3 months warranty (note however that these T42p's are labeled as being "slightly blemished" on IBM's site). See the thread
about IBM certified used machine, 25% off.
Conclusion? I don't know... if I were you, I would
absolutely get the T42p serviced (minor repair!), then keep it - and enjoy it
myself!
Best regards,
Johan

thanks. I'm getting it repaired
Though I was pondering the purchase of a T61p w/ a WUXGA screen (as can get it for around 1500 shipped w/ tax via EPP).
Pondering if its worthwhile, or just hold out longer.

It's actually really easy to fix yourself. It's a $5 or so part on ebay and if you follow the HMM and keep track of all the screws, you shouldn't have a problem replacing it. The jack just plugs into the board, it's not soldered in like most laptops.

I've read through the HMM manual many times and I've never seen this part discussed (it could be that I'm missing it).
