Hate to ask, T40 Restore CDs?

Hiya,

I think I've been here before but I resolved the problem before getting the CDs. I've made a bit of a boob and I hate wandering on here with my tail between my legs (that's right I have a real tail...) -- I would contribute more but I'm usually so busy so my apologies for wandering on here at the moment I need some assistance.

I recently got a 160GB hard disk for the T40. All good. So I installed Ubuntu on it and that's running great and I have a work project that requires Windows (more specifically I need to run Visual Studio 2008 Web Developer...) Now the old 40GB hard disk, well I have wiped it and put it in an old PowerBook as the old 2GB drive was on its last legs.

Guess what, I can't find the bloody restore CDs and I've gone and wiped the old hard disk where the restore partition was...

I am quite clever as you will have noticed ;)

Is there any one who could assist me in the restore CD department or knows of a decent enough place to get them? I know of eBay but I don't often use eBay now and I haven't seen anything as yet that would help.

The T40 restore discs are Windows XP with SP1b if I recall correctly.

Sorry to be a pest :) *grovel grovel*

Thanks,
Vicky

Hm... How did you get the recovery cd in the first place?
As far as I know, IBM didn't give you any recovery cd since you'll have recovery software embedded in your hard drive.

There's actually a way to get recovery from lenovo website and costing $20. But in order to do that, you'll need your machine to be in warranty date.

Assuming your laptop's warranty date has expired, try another way:
on lenovo website, under software/driver download, you can find RESCUE AND RECOVERY which will install the embedded recovery software and from bios screen, you'll have option "resotre to factory state".

Based on my experience, it's better to download the older version of rescue and recovery for the newer version always fails to restore the system.

Hope that helps

If the disk was wiped, as it statres in the post, R & R will have nothing to restore from.

How can I reinstate the recovery partition once it´s been wiped out? I´ve got the cd-s but the rar dance stops just after "restore to factory settings".

Typically once you've wiped it, its gone. There are advanced measures but this will require removing the HDD and playing around with recovery software.

If I remember correctly, I've read another member used T42 CDs, anyone recall this?

I've just bought a set (allegedly) from an EPray seller in Italy.

They are in English and will be (perhaps) suitable for ThinkPads R51, T42 and T42p.

I don't speak Italian and I may have misread the seller's description via the translator, but it was worth a punt for 8 Euros.

I'll wait to see what turns up, if it does, and report back with an open mind and hands.
