SOLD!R40 PM1.4, 15" XGA, parts/repair, partially works

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Tue Feb 26, 2008 6:46 pm

The basics:

ThinkPad R40 2897-83U

Original description:
P M 1.4GHz
256MB RAM
20GB HDD........................NONE (no caddy, no cover)
15 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD
16MB ATI Radeon 7500
24x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD................NONE
Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI).............now Atheros a/b
Modem(CDC)
10/100 Ethernet(LOM)
UltraNav
Secure Chip
IEEE 1394
8c Li-Ion battery..............NO main battery, has UltraBay battery
WinXP Pro................COA and restore media included
NO AC Adapter

ISSUES:

The machine is in presentable physical condition, but has a tendency of shutting off on its own, without any rhyme or reason, or seemingly detectable logic behind the shutdowns. I've run every single test from PC-Doctor on it, and it has passed with flying colours. I'm assuming a motherboard issue, but can't put my finger on it. Therefore, for parts or repair it goes...NOT as a working unit, although I've managed to perform a full install of XP on a test HDD, and had it running Linux Mint from CD for well over 24hrs...

cosmetic imperfections:

- some wear and scratches on the lid
- left LCD latch is broken
- missing a piece of plastic from the left side bottom, not visible until you lift the laptop a bit.

The rest of the laptop is in near-perfect condition. Great LCD, keyboard, palmrest, bottom covers...

Asking $100 firm plus reasonable shipping depending on your location. As most of you know, I do ship worldwide and accept all reasonable payment methods.

Feel free to PM me for high-resolution pictures, or with any questions/concerns that you might have.
