WTB: Wireless PCI adapter for X22

#1 Post by Bg357 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 11:15 pm

I'm looking for a PCI adapter for an X22 2662-9EU.

I need it for a G network so I would be interested in a B/G adapter or an A/B/G adapter, just so long as it fits my X22.

PM me with any offers,

Thanks

I have a Broadcom G minipci card I'd sell for $10 shipped. Dunno if it's right though... I heard that forum member rkawakami uses them alot, so you can ask him to be sure.

Funny you should bring it up....

Just plugged in a BCM94306MP card into an X22. Downloaded the driver from Gateway and the Belkin wireless utility program, took out the factory ActionTec card, popped in the Broadcom and that's one less system I have to upgrade to the G standard before I upgrade my access point. It might draw a little bit more power than before but it doesn't seem to be noticeable. You will of course, lose the built-in modem with the Broadcom card.

rkawakami: I want to upgrade the wireless in my X22 for G capability. What I have now is an "Actiontec/IBM High rate wireless LAN MiniPCI combo card" and I'd like to know what card would be the best upgrade with the least amount of trouble.

aaa has offered a Broadcom card with the following ID:

WMIB-158G
QDS-BRCM1016
BCM94318MPG
BCM4318EKFBG

Would that do me any good or not? Should I stay with an Actiontec?
Thank you for your help.

Googling the "BCM94318MPG" part number seems to indicate that it is an 802.11b/g card. As far as I know, the ActionTec cards that came with the T23s, X22s and others, are "b" only (in addition to having the 56K modem). So in that case, no, an ActionTec card will do you no good if you want/need the "G" speed.

"Best upgrade for the least amount of trouble" would be to make sure that whatever card you install has drivers that are easily obtainable. Most people here seem to use an Intel or Atheros MiniPCI card. I think I'm in the minority with my Broadcom choice. Why did I go with that one? When I did my 600X wireless upgrade, the Broadcom card was cheap and a source for the driver was suggested by the eBay seller (which turned out to be the wrong one but I found the Gateway driver easily enough). Once I started using it, I found that NetStumbler supported the chipset. Since then that's the card that I've been putting into the T23s.

Looking around, I find this for the BCM94318MPG:
