I thought it would be of value for you to know that a wireless card recognition mechanism was programmed by IBM into the BIOs settings of the R40 to recognize only one card marketed by IBM - the Actiontec Prism, aka the IBM High Rate Card which is 802.11b only. You can find the P/N FRU of that in the service part lit of the R40. Not really sure what happens when you put 3rd party cards.
