MATSHITA UJ-812 (T42 DVD-R/CDRW drive) on eBay now...

I put it up for auction on eBay. It's at $100 so far, the previous multi-burner drive sold for a little over $200. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 28459&rd=1

I find that I'm not using this much (wish it was DVD+R). So i was wondering if anyone wanted to buy it off me so I could just go ahead and find a regular DVD-Rom drive or DVD/CDRW drive. Practically brand new, never burned a DVD on this and I burned one CD-R to test. Also I don't believe I ever used it to read any CD's and definitely never used it to read any DVD's.

ThinkPad MultiburnerSlim Drive.
$225 shipped, or I'll do a trade for a desktop dual format DVD burner + cash since I'm looking into buying a dual format DVD burner for my desktop now.

Darren,

Email me, I'm interested in the DVD burner and could do a CD burner + cash deal.

James

I took a look at IBM's site and it looks like these are the three drives for the T42.

ThinkPad DVD-ROM Ultrabay Slim Drive $119.00

ThinkPad CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II Ultrabay Slim Drive $159.00

ThinkPad Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive $349.00

I guess what I'm really looking for is the second one, the CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II drive. Anyone know what a fair market value for these items 'used' is? I'm searching eBay but I'm not finding much.

$50, $100 and $200 to $250 respectively.

I've got an extra CD burner for the T4X series and that's what I'm offering + some cash for your DVD burner.

We could meet at the Molly Pitcher service area!

James

Thanks James, we could do that hehehe. Where is that service area located?
I'm really looking for a DVD-Rom though. Which model# is your burner and what are the specs? I might just sell this to you if you want and bid on something on eBay.

??? Halfway between exits 8 and 8A on the southbound side of the Turnpike. http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/nj-vcenter-molly.htm You're beginning to make me think all those stories we told at Stevens about NJIT grads are true!

It's a Combo I drive http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... MIGR-46427 and is definitely DVD-ROM compatible.

I think I even have a couple of the Combo II drives around.

James

??? NJIT graduate, that I am not. I should've gone there though instead of dumping over $150k on CMU, that and I hated Pittsburgh. I don't usually venture any further south than New Brunswick (Rutgers). So that service area is unknown to me. Hell, I consider New Brunswick to be "Southern NJ" in my book.

I was under the impression that your drive was only a CD burner, but since it's the combo drive I wouldn't mind trading with you. What's the going rate for your drive? And I suppose the Combo drive II is around $100 as you stated in a previous post.

So my multiburner drive for your combo I drive + cash, or combo II drive + cash? I'm currently watching some auctions on eBay so I can get a better idea as to how much the various drives are going for. I won't be able to make any trade with you until the coming weekend anyway since I live in NYC during the week.

To the top!

You're asking way to much for it. That's why no one has posted since your last post in this thread. I also have a UJ-812...but with silver face plate. I have tried to get a black one for it...even wrote Panasonic, but no deal. So, I offered it to someone here several weeks ago for $150 shipped, but even that was to high. I've held on to it for now, but will probably offer it again soon...or maybe on eBay, but for probably even less. Don't expect even 2/3 of a new price for CD or DVD drives, even if they are recordable. This market is rapidly changing with 8 and even 16X burners in laptops, and even with dual (+ and -) formats...although not yet for the really slim (9.5mm) drives like the 812...but it will happen soon. People are able to purchase this drive and other, similar drives elsewhere much cheaper. I hope I didn't offend you. I, personally would like to see you get over $200 for your drive...because if you do, I'll be right behind you to sell mine. Anyway, good luck.

Thanks for the information. I was just going by Jame's assessment as to what the fair market value was, so I priced mine right in the middle. Also saw one a few weeks back for $250 + shipping on eBay.

I haven't seen any of these sell, so I guess the demand isn't there. Taking best offers now?

I'm glad you read and "took in" what I said about your pricing. I believe there is a "demand" for these (the only multi-burner out there, that I'm aware of that will fit the T40 series), but in my assessment, the reason they haven't sold on eBay is that they were priced to high to begin with. Good luck on your sale...I'm right behind you with mine if you sell yours....

Btw, I had a reply from a guy yesterday from Panasonic company and he's working on getting me a black faceplate for mine....if all goes well, I'll be able to offer mine with the faceplate that is compliant with ThinkPads, which should help mine sell as well. I'm thinking that $150-175 range and someone will be interested in buying it. Either that or some other multi-burner by some other company that is also 9.5mm will begin selling....as these new ones are bound to be cheaper. I hope not, but, like I said before, it's bound to happen. That's why it's important that ours are offered prior to this happening.

202 bucks, [censored], i didnt think it would go over 150. Good job!!

I saw some moron pay 117 bucks for a used extended battery and there were a half dozen new ones with a buy it now price of 99. Man, some people are stupid.

Anyway, good job!

Some people think that if it's expensive, it must be good quality. Not to be stereo typing, but the Asian mind-set is often of this nature.

Yeah [censored], I'm not sure what these people are thinking paying this much for the drive, but I'm happy. I was going to let it go for $150 shipped, but the bidders are helping me pay off my snowboarding debt. So whoever wins the auction, I'll be very thankful.

I picked up a dual layer NEC rebadged dual format drive from Staples for $35, so I definitely can't wait to get this expensive drive out of my hands.

Good luck on your auction... even if you can't get the black face plate, you should still get something for it right? Do they come off easily? You could buy a cheapo drive and swap them maybe?

Good luck putting up that drive for auction.

Hey thanks....the silver faceplate comes off very easy...and back on easily too. I don't think any cheepo one will work as the light, eject button, etc. is in a certain place, as well as the very slim size....which is really hard to find. Also, isn't the right end of it tapered? Anyway, if it is, someone will have to cut this faceplate if they want to use the drive in a ThinkPad. Otherwise, it wouldn't be difficult to paint black...just that you would lose all the emblems on it.
