There has to be someone with a 7200 rpm PATA hard drive for sale. I would much rather buy from someone here than on Ebay...

What happened to all of them? Did all the manufacturers stop producing them at the same time? Very strange...

I have a couple of these I think, I know they are 60gb, and 7200 rpm. What is the model number to check? Why are they in such demand, the two I have are just in a bag, or an external HD enclosure at the moment.
Re: couple
Well they used to be *the* drive to get for a PATA laptop, for greatest performance increase. Then the supply of brand new ones suddenly dried up.nikemen wrote:I have a couple of these I think, I know they are 60gb, and 7200 rpm. What is the model number to check? I'm sure lots of people would like to have yours

nikemen are you interested in parting with any of your old drives? I need a 7200 rpm pata drive, and they are not selling new ones. If you are using one externally, you could easily replace it with a newer sata drive and pass your old one on to someone who could use it internally...
Just a thought...

The PATA 7200rpm drives have been discontinued for some reason. I contacted all of the online sellers advertising the Hitachi 7200rpm 100gig drive (7k100) but none of them had one in stock and said they could no longer get them. So it looks like one of the rapidly dwindling 5400rpm drives or nothing!

What are they worth? $1 per GB or more? I'm trying to trade an unused 80GB 7K100 for a T4x mobo, but I may just sell it and then locate a mobo on my own.
This doesn't make any sense. All the laptop manufacturers need a supply for warranty repair for at least another 3 years. Are there any articles on why production stopped at multiple drive companies.
Perhaps they'll all start releasing newer models at the same time? Hopefully soon!
Here's a refurb. Seagate 40GB 7200RPM option for $66 ($58 + $8 shipping) - yikes!

I have an Hitachi 7K60 60GB PATA I'd be willing to sell. It probably hasn't been used much as I had it marked as a "spare", it checks out fine, and still has the recovery partition on it (likely from a T42 or an X31 but I don't remember so don't hold me to it!). I have no idea what it's worth so an interested e-mailer over the next day or so with a tasty offer gets it (no calling "dibs" please as I will choose who gets it... unless you are going to send me a 3-figure offer of course!). I don't need it anymore. I don't need a lot of things anymore, though I don't have the time to list it all either!

Apparently, that is exactly what happened - the there was a run on these 7200rpm PATA drives by the computer manufacturers when they heard they were being discontinued. As to why they were being discontinued - I guess high performance PATA drives are considered a bit of an oxymoron now (at least by the marketing guys)!underclocker wrote: This doesn't make any sense. Which models do your "sources" have?brainpicker wrote:I also checked some of my old "sources" and found 2 available for $95 plus shipping each if anyone is interested (6 month warranty from the seller). I check some other guys to see what's out there.

The Seagate 80GB 7200RPM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822146229) has an ETA of 5/5/08. None of the Hitachis have ETAs.ajkula66 wrote:And they're ALL "out of stock"...

Re: 7200rpm PATA HDD
Well guys, I just realized that I actually have one of these in my "cabinet of possibilities". I bought it some months ago to go in my project A31p (which I'm about to sell as well since I've moved on to a R50). Anyway, it's a new (sealed in the static bag):
Hitachi Travelstar HTS721080G9T00
7200rpm 80Gb, 8Mb Cache
The sticker is marked May 07, so I believe is still under warranty. I don't remember what I paid for it, and I sure don't have any idea how much it's worth, so if anyone is interested, please PM.
