Hello everybody, I just stumbled upon an eBay listing of a ThinkPad 701c in what seemed to be a very nice condition (with original box!), which I though I should share here, as the 701c is one of the classic ThinkPads. I would probably bid myself, but unfortunately I'm not American. (You guys are so lucky with your ThinkPad selection and prices!).

And no, it isn't against forum policy or rules to post links to items on eBay, as long as you are pointing it out for others, and not try to run a business by cross referencing numerous items that you or a friend might have for sale on eBay.

Man thats a rare find! Doesn't look like he even ships to Canada though so out of luck for me. Hopefully someone here gets it so they can post a nice little review.

i bought that EXACT same model (2630-5TU) back in 1995 and kicked myself for selling it.   i'm going to be watching this auction very closely.

It depends entirely on the condition. If you have a near-mint one with original packaging, I bet it can easily fetch hundreds in this very forum, as the 701c is a collectible. Heck, a mint condition vintage IBM keyboard can sell for over a hundred.

The problem is of course that there aren't many people who own a classic ThinkPad but didn't or rarely used it. Same deal with original vintage comic books or Transformer toys. How many kids owned one but could resist opening and playing with them? An unopened box today is worth much more than original list prices.

I've got one that was never used, but it wasn't exactly keep in a museum, either. There's some weird bubbling on the bottom rubber either from heat or battery acid

No scratches or anything, though. Still boots fine and holds a 5sec charge . I'll keep it for another decade and see about the worth by then.

I've got two 701's already... one in mint shape (stored in a desk where my dad worked and was kept as a spare) and another that's in 9 out of 10 shape. I don't plan to sell them though.

Oh, and for the transformers comment above. I got two Optimus Prime's one year for xmas and my rents still have the one in it's box somewhere in our basement. All the others were played heavily with though.
