Hey underclocker,

Will this card work in an R40? (Do I need to update the BIOS?)

If it works in this machine, then I am interested!

This should work in R40 since some of them have originally been shipped with Atheros a/b cards.

Hello!

I'm a T42 owner with a 11b wifi. I'm interested in buying an atheros card for my thinkpad. What kind of shipping options can I get (I'm in Spain, Europe)?

Thanks.

Understood. On a few occasions with shipping small items to Europe via USPS, they arrived within 3-4 business days. This is sometimes faster than delivery within the US! Maybe the out of country mail is sorted and sent faster than US mail...but some of the delivery time also depends on the local postal service, too.

I have one in my R40 2722-3GG. I had to update the BIOS to the latest version and install the no-1802 patch. I bought my card new from IBM.

On another subject, underclocker, how many of these cards do you have?

I have two (not counting the one in my R51). I also have on of the IBM abg first version adapters, FRU P/N: 91P7301. Let me know if you'd like one or more!

Can't seem to verify if this will work in my z61t which came with the lousy intel chip.

Sorry it won't. You need a Mini-PCI Express adapter.

just curious, what's the difference from the 91P7301? I've been using one of the latter and it's flawless, far unlike the Intel's with their buggy drivers.

I'm sure another forum member has better information, but the second generation adapter use a more highly integrated chipset - perhaps one versus two or two versus three chips - which result in lower power consumption and heat. I'm not sure about performance, but I don't ever remember reading about complaints for either.

I have also observed that the second version is slightly smaller and lighter.
