Not really. Most T4x systems sell in $280-400 range on Craigslist. I know because I've sold a bunch of them. $500 is close to T43 territory and is going to be pretty difficult for a run of the mill T42, but you never know. I would lower price to around $400 if you want to sell it locally though.

That machine is a little better than an average t42.
sxga+
gig ram
warranty
etc etc. :)

You may want to update your location first...it says MI and you're discussing local pickup in Toronto...geography may not be my strong point, but there's a huge difference...in pricing these units as well...prices are generally somewhat higher in Canada.

Gig of RAM isn't very special nowadays. SXGA+ and a few remaining months of warranty put it in the $350-380 range. Without those, the price would be closer to $300. Just my $0.02.

Yes, this is for Toronto - adjusted for Canadian customers, is $400 fair?
Also, the system has a Radeon 9600 - something that I've thought to be uncommon among T42s?

Run of the mill would be XGA, 512, no warranty. A few remaining months of warranty when you buy something used and on line is a big deal, at least if you get it and it has a problem you can use the warranty.

simms, you can price that machine whatever you want, market will dictate if it sells, patience is a virtue and this is not ebay. ....I pay more for things here just for the peace of mind.

OK, a couple of things here:

a) ALL SXGA+ T42 units have Radeon 9600, as well as some late XGA ones. That being said, 9600 is by far a more desirable GPU than 7500.
b) Fingerprint reader raises the value as well.
c) If the warranty is extendable (meaning that the machine itself is less than 5 years old), that is another plus.

If this were my ThinkPad I wouldn't talk to anyone offering less than your current asking price, plus shipping.

As for the rest of your stuff, you're on the money with HDD, the rest of the prices should be tested on the open market.

Best of luck with the sale.

Didn't notice you were from Canada. Won't argue about those prices because I don't know much about the Canadian market. If it's anything like here you should be able to get it, give or take $50.

Btw, if run of the mill T42 has XGA, Radeon 7500, 512MB, etc, how's it any better than a regular T40/41?

Let's not go OT anymore here, but Dothan instead of Banias would be a part of the answer...

We can start a separate thread in T4x section and further discuss this issue instead of hijacking the thread...

I received an offer of $600 for the whole package (excluding the 80G drive). This was based on $500 for laptop and then 20% off on all other accessories to total to $600.

Is this a fair deal for me? I'm glad I'm selling the whole package but I think 20% off was a little steep of a discount for a 9-cell and a chicony, as well as throwing in the AC adapter for free.

It's an OK deal. I think the laptop was a bit overpriced to begin with.
