Hmmm... I want to recover this Dell and give it to my sister. I was hoping to find the recovery CDs somewhere. The laptop is out of warranty, so Dell is out of the question. If anyone has these, please let me know. I appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hmmm... not sure this will work, although I don't know for sure. I've contacted the seller and asked if it will work on ANY Dell, desktop and laptop. We'll see what he says.

I think Dell is somewhat like the rest of the OEMs... their software is specific to certain models. Just like you can't use a T60 recovery on an X31.

Thanks for the response and link.

Try Ctrl+F11 to see if the hidden partition works. Here is a link that may help. I hope this link does not violate any forum policy...I would think not.

Dell cds are vanilla Windows cds, not specific to model at all.

I agree with aaa.....they are just very generic but they work just fine for ANY Dell computer....you just may have to go to thier support site afterwards and download any missed drivers.
I have a couple of these CD's here and would be happy to burn a copy for you and send it out for the cost of shipping to you.
Let me know.

OH Yeah...I forgot to mention....I have a Dell D600 and I used one of the these restore CD's for it and all went just fine...although I dont recall if I had to go and download any additional files from Dell.
Also these are for Windows XP.

Thank you all for the replies! I really appreciate the input.

The hard drive had been changed out when I received this laptop, so there's no recovery software.

I didn't know this. I thought I remembered trying to reload a Dell a few years ago and the CDs were model specific. I have to admit, that was at least 9 years ago, so perhaps this has changed now.

Thanks tony6264! I would appreciate the help. There is another member that pm'd me with the same offer. If he can't send it, I'll pm you. Thanks again!

Again, thanks all. It looks like there are a few Dell users here after all! I personally don't like Dells, but this D610 is basically new (hardly ever used before being corporate replaced), so I thought I would redo it and give it to my sister to replace her M700 Compaq. She's had that for many years now, and though it still works, the D610 should be much better for her.

Aloha!

Thats fine.
I also had a very low opinion of the Dell's until I picked up this D600....it really is not that bad, in fact it is pretty zippy considering it only has 512 ram, but all in all...not a bad machine.
Now of course I would NEVER try to use Dell Tech support.
I simply have better things to do with 6 hours out of my day.

Actually, the D610 is rather quick... 2ghz, 533bus. Definitely faster than any of my Thinkpads. However, the keyboard isn't as solid feeling and the screen viewing angle is absolutely terrible... not to mention the overall clarity. Might be my old eyes! Used by itself, its ok though, but sitting next to any of my Thinkpads and there's no comparison as far as the screen goes. I think I'm spoiled! :)

Anyways, I'll contact you if I don't hear back from the other forum member. Thanks for the help!
