WTB: UK Line cord for Z series AC + Intel T9300 processor

#1 Post by minc3d » Sun Jun 08, 2008 4:57 pm

Hello All,

A fairly straightforward WTB thread in which I have a family member looking for two of the following items for a laptop they are taking to England with them this summer.

1) Need a LINE CORD only for UK/England power connections for a Z series AC adapter. The AC adapter, as most know, is the standard new Z/T/X adapter which is universal across IBM lines now. They are taking the laptop to England so they need a line cord which will worth with British connections. I can't find anyone on ebay selling any line cords alone so if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Will take a used cord of course as long as it is in very good condition.

2) This person is also looking for a Socket P Intel T9300 Core 2 processor which is a laptop model. This is the highest end Core 2 available and since they are speed crazy this is what they want. Processor can be used but MUST be working and great condition (must I add that?) Pricing has to be competitive with ebay/retailers otherwise no incentive for me to buy off the forums.

Let me know if you have any of the two items above. I can pay via PayPal, money order, or Google Checkout. Message me via PM.

You can buy a UK plug in any DIY or Tesco and similar.
Cost about £1.-
Just cut off the US plug, mount the new plug and Bob's your uncle..

No DIY projects on this one... this family member wants it factory molded.

What sort of female plug goes into that adapter? Is it the same 2-prong as on the 72W adapter for T2x/T30/T4x?
I have various power cables with Irish plugs, which are identical to UK plugs. I might just have the right one if I can see a picture (photos say a 1000 words...)

All Irish/UK plugs have 3 prongs, but sometimes the ground prong (the single one) is just plastic.
Is the plug into the adapter the 2-prong 'Figure 8' or the 3-prong 'Micky Mouse' type (as seen in the above picture)?

That depends on the adapter, not on the cord...if you have a 2-prong adapter, that will work...BTW, in the UK the third prong is tied not to the ground but to the fuse...

Sorry, NO.
The ground-pin either connects to the ground in the wall socket, or is not connected at all!
The 'hot' wire (brown in UK, black in US) is fused.
It's the right-hand pin at the bottom, if you look at a UK plug with the pins pointing up.

@ minc3d: yes, the UK 3-prong cable (Micky Mouse) as depicted is the correct one.
I had some of those, but 'decapitated' them recently and put on a 3-prong US earthed plug.

RBS,

I'm sure you're right since you've lived in that neighbourhood more recently than I have...my memory's getting rusty in certain areas, I guess... :?

Apologies for this mix-up.
