If I'm allowed to comment...

MC8775 is identical to the Lenovo-branded card sold with *61 series and X300 ThinkPads. MC8780 is a newer and better version supporting receive diversity for European UMTS frequencies (850/2100MHz, can use two antennas for better reception) and higher speeds (up to 7.2/2.0Mbps depending on network support).

These cards will work in mostly any *60 or newer series ThinkPad, provided you have a free miniPCIe slot for it, but there are a few things to be aware of:
1) If your machine wasn't sold with WWAN card, you don't have the required antennas and will have to install some. Also the same goes for SIM card slot. The only exception to this is X300, which always has everything.
2) These cards will throw 1804 error on boot and the only way to get past it is using patched BIOS. Patched BIOSes have been proven to work by now and pose about the same risk as a regular BIOS flashing, but you might have to use an older one = downgrade and known to me is a case when it caused shutdowns after resuming from standby.
3) FnF5 utility and/or AccessConnections will need to be patched to recognize these.

That said, I'm running modified BIOS myself with no encountered problems and have installed WWAN antennas into my T60.

Thanks for ZENDER's comments.
Zender has helped me to sort out the 1804 problem before.
