Looking for a T60/p Flexview
Looking for a T60/p Flexview
Hi,
I'm considering buying a T60/p with a Flexview screen. I'm going to need something slightly less massive and a bit faster than the A31p in September, but Flexview really is a one-way street -- so T60 it is.
I'd most like a Intel/Radeon motherboard with a UXGA screen. Screen swaps on a T60 are a tiny bit more preferable than planar swaps on a T60p, but I'll take both happily. The reason is I really like the space on the UXGA in my A31p, but would prefer lower-end graphics to keep the heat in the laptop down.
If I can't get that, I will consider a T60p or a T60 with SXGA+ Flexview.
Beyond the Flexview, I'm not too picky about specific configuration. Hard drive, CPU, and RAM are all negotiable; hard drive or an installed OS is outright optional. Having a motherboard capable of taking a Core 2 Duo or already having a Core 2 Duo would be a bonus. I won't be using this as a portable, so I'm okay with the flush-fitting battery. Warranty until sometime next year would also be nice.
I'm not in a particular hurry to buy, but I'll jump on the right deal.

I don't have one to sell, but just a couple of FYIs:
A) If you're interested in an UXGA, you'll be looking for a T60p, no standard T60 units have anything above SXGA+. This also comes with ATi 5200 (256Mb) GPU.
B) All boards used on "p" units are capable of taking a C2D CPU.
Good luck with your noble quest.

Take a look at T43P's also. They'd fit the bill in all aspects except for the C2D CPU. You can still find one with warranty if you look around. In fact richk has a nice one for sale. This T43P is UXGA flexview, and it's loaded. Knowing Richk it's perfect in every way.

Thanks for the comments.
Initially I was leaning towards the vanilla-graphics T60 in hopes it will be quieter. I think this is a question I will pose to the T60 forum tomorrow.
The T43 does feature DDR2 and SATA, which makes it a lot more desirable than a T42, but hard drive compatiblity can be spotty from what I heard, and perhaps more importantly it has a reputation for being loud. I would also prefer that extra bit of power, and the dual core may come in handy as I plan to run VMs.

FYI, T43 does not feature SATA. It's PATA with a SATA bridge.
Basic T60 with a X1300 GPU is quiet and cool, as is the one with X1400. Things get a little hotter on "p" machines, but that's the price one has to pay for workstation-class graphics. None of these machines are really noisy when compared to T43/p. And all of the 15" units generally have better cooling than their 14" siblings.
Hope this helps.

I watched a UXGA T60 with a year and a half of warranty left go for $910 plus $20 shipping on eBay the other day. The unit from what I could tell was in pretty good shape. I thought I saved the link, but can't seem to find it right now.
I also had a chance to get a SXGA+ unit for $650 with two years of warranty left. I decided to pass. I guess if you keep looking I'm sure you'll find something good.

There is no way I'd spend almost a grand for a ThinkPad on eBay, but that's just me...add a hundred bucks and buy from someone here-anytime.I watched a UXGA T60 with a year and a half of warranty left go for $910 plus $20 shipping on eBay the other day.

FYI I bought a T60p here about six months ago for under a grand...perfect it was not, but nice it was, with warranty remaining.
I've sold a T60 with 18 mos of warranty left, 15" IPS SXGA+ (X1300 GPU), once again, not perfect but very nice for well under $800...right here on this forum.
If I were looking for a T60p "for keeps" I'd wait for syedj's next offering, and pay a premium price for a flawless unit from a known trusted seller...and I'm a reseller. But when I'm shopping for myself, I don't mind spending a few extra bucks in exchange for a good night's sleep...

Looks like the wait is over, I do have one for sale right now:

Thanks for the replies (my bad about the T43 hard drives, bah), and sorry for the delay in updating this. I'm now set on getting one of these machines by mid-August or so. I'd most like a UXGA screen with lower spec graphics, but if nothing surfaces for a couple of days, I'll consider the two stock options.
