I'm traveling to visit family in Belarus later this year and I want to bring my niece a laptop/notebook computer, since they're hard to come by over there. Anyone have an older system (Pentium III 733 or better, something that will run XP or Ubuntu) they'd be willing to part with? Doesn't even have to be an IBM (gasp!)
WTB: ~$100-150 Older Notebook/Laptop

Update: Ended up with an IBM ThinkPad T40 for $185... thanks for all the offers!

I'm looking to spend around $100-150. I'll cover shipping and provide a prepaid label. Drop me a PM if you've got something to offer! Thanks!

Since you want a P3, your best bests are T20/21 (T22/23 tend to be more expensive). My suggestion would be a fully equipped 600X, it doesn't get better than that ...

Well...I have one more X24 that is not cosmetically in the same condition as the other two, but functionally, is excellent.
This one has several keys with worn lettering and considerable shine on several keys. The keyboard and mouse buttons work fine, they just look worn. The palmrest has a worn spot where someone's left palm would rest (imagine that). As with the others, there are light scuffs on the cover, as well. Bottom line, with a new keyboard it would look great.
The LCD is fine with no bad pixels and I installed a newer fast 40GB hard drive, so it's quiet and fast. The battery is in the yellow zone and lasts about 1.5 hours.
Full spec.'s below, I can post pix, too. I was thinking $159 delivered in the U.S.
Product: ThinkPad X24 2662-MPU
Original description:
Pentium III-M 1.13GHz (512KB cache)
256MB RAM (128MB onboard, 128MB stick)
30.0GB HDD --> upgraded to newer 40GB 5400rpm 8MB cache (fast and quiet)
12.1 XGA (1024x768) TFT LCD
Ethernet (CDC) 10/100
Modem (MPCI)
6 Cell Li-Ion battery
Win2000 COA
AC Adapter (72 watt, genuine IBM)
Laptop weight is 3.5 lbs.!
Note: X24's do not have internal optical drives, but any external USB optical will work for booting or loading software.
PM me know if you're interested.
