FS: Intel SL6VC P4M 2.4 CPU upgrade A31/p, T30, R40

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:15 pm

Pulled out of an upgraded A31p with a dead board, guaranteed against DOA.

A very good upgrade that will work in:

A31, A31p

T30

R40
(non-PM based units), possibly R32

Specs can be found here:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SL6VC

Asking $50 plus actual shipping, and will ship worldwide.

Please be advised that this upgrade may require a different heatsink/fan depending on the CPU you're upgrading from.

On A31/p, if you're going from a CPU that is under 1.8 you will need to change the heatsink as well.

Similar has been reported for T30, and I believe that R40 would not be an exception to the rule either.

Feel free to PM me with any questions/concerns that you might have.

George, do I understand you correctly, that I would be ok with the existing heatsink and fan on a 1.8 t30. Also would you have any idea of the temperature increase?

So, you don't happen to have the appropriate heat sink for an A31p for sale as well, do you?

I don't have the appropriate heatsink for A31p, I gave it to someone along with a spare 2.0 CPU that I had...but it's like anywhere from $12-15 on eBay, FRU 62P4092

I've never upgraded the CPU on T30, so I don't know from experience, but HMM lists three different fans, you may want to take a look yourself...

I ran an SL6VB 2.2 in my T30 with the original fan for a while. It ran at very high temperatures a lot of times, often topping out above 70 degrees celcius if I didn't have the unit on some sort of cooling pad. The fan is a necessary upgrade unless you only plan to run light tasks in a controlled environment, but the performance upgrade was definitely noticeable over my previous 1.8

For that 2.4 upgrade in a T30, you need the Fan P/N 91P8908, otherwise you'll have a frying pan!

I have upgraded a number of 1.7 A31p units to 2.4 and never changed the fan and never had any problems at all.
Do use arctic silver. NOT white thermal.

Given what scosgt1 reports, this is an even cheaper upgrade than I was thinking (and doing) at least for A31/p units...

Bump, while we're at it... :D

...and my a31p, originally a 1.8, as been cranking right along at 2.4 now for over three years now and hasn't flinched once either. :)

No PM received, please re-send or email me...

FWIW, when it comes to A31p, 1.8 and 2.0 have the same fan...

Man, I must've done something wrong with my thermal paste then, cuz mine was HOT. I wish I could've found a CPU like this for $50 a year ago, geez. They were going for $100+, easily.
