I'm looking for a ThinkPad 770, E, ED, X or Z. I just want a working 770 to play around with because my ED died awhile back and the fun-factor never wore off on it.

I can do without the hard drive but need a caddy. Already have an ac adapter, optical drive and a DEVA card.

Make it two - I'd love to buy a thinkpad 770 (in particualr the 770z) too!

What are these things worth these days? I think mine has 64mb and a 4gb hard drive. It's the non-dvd, 13.3" model, in pretty good shape.

Yeah, I'd like to get some idea of the value of these units also. I have;

It's missing one of the speaker covers on the front, and half on the docking port cover is missing on the back. Otherwise, it's in pretty good condition.

Can probably get more for it locally than on the forum, but still don't really know what to ask for it. I have a party coming over this weekend to look at buying a Thinkpad, and this 770X is one of the models I will be showing.

So, AlphaKila, what would you consider "cheap"?

I too would love to buy a 770Z with the 13.7" SXGA (1280x1024) display. I am not interested in those with 1024x768 resolution. I'm willing to pay up to $100 shipped. If you have one in good working condition, please send me a PM.

Well guys...today I picked up almost what you all are looking for. A 770X 9549-7AU with the SXGA+ display. It works, but it's in rough shape right now. The display is dim, but works. So maybe needs an inverter, or CCFL replacement, I'll have to investigate further later. And the case is pretty banged up. I have lots of 770 spare parts so I think I can fix it up fairly well. We'll see.

I also have a working 770Z base that is missing it's display entirely . Would any of you guys be more interested in a Frankenpad 770Z with the SXGA+ display, or the 770X fixed up to original specs?

I'll be looking for around $100 for it either way, once it's working right. Unless someone wants to make an offer as-is.

The 770Z Type is 9549-81U. It will probably be late this weekend before I know how this is going to work out. Will keep you posted.

Everything works, except the battery is dead, and the DVD-ROM drive will open (sometimes), but you cannot read any discs in it.

I am the owner of the above ThinkPad 770X system.

I fixed the DVD-ROM drive by reinstalling using the Recovery DVD (Windows 98FE), then upgrading to Windows ME.
The DVD-ROM drive now works perfectly.

The only issue is the DC battery is dead. I found a new 6600mAh one on amazon for around $70 including shipping.
Also included on CD and floppy disk is the updated BIOS, which cannot be updated unless the unit has a functioning and fully charged DC battery.

The RAM could also be upgraded to the max, which is 320MB.
I found 2 128MB SODIMMs online for around $22 each.

This laptop has no 'cosmetic blemishes', no scratches, etc.
The LCD screen looks very good, as I can see no bad pixels.
The unit has been completely wiped down with anti-bacterial wipes to remove any residue.

Because I had to reload the OS, etc. and replace the CMOS battery, and download/burn the WinME updates to CD-R, the price is now $100.00 U.S., which includes shipping anywhere in the continental U.S., via UPS ground.

I finally succeeded in updating the BIOS even though the DC battery is dead.

Sorry guys, my SXGA screen is damaged so I can't offer it for sale. I do however have a 770, a 770X and a 770Z all with XGA screens, and in good shape that I can let go fairly cheap depending on whether you want a barebones unit, or fully loaded.

Anyone interested in one of these collectors items (although not as collectable as SXGA. ), please PM.

I solved the DVD-ROM problem by totally restoring the system. Now the DVD-ROM drives works like new.
I also added a 256MB PC100 SODIMM in the #2 available slot.
Now the total RAM is 384MB. That's 64MB PC66 onboard, with 64MB PC66 in #1 slot, and 256MB PC100 in #2 slot.
It runs much faster. The 256MB PC100 defaults to 66MHz (PC66).
I took my 2 256MB PC100 SODIMMs out of my old Vaio and installed them and it worked even better. So, it will take 512MB PC100 or PC133 indeed. It ignores the 64MB PC66 onboard if you add the 2 256MB SODIMMs.
This laptop has no physical damage or blemishes or scratches, period.
Works like a top.
I also flashed/updated the BIOS even though the DC battery is dead.
This would be a good machine to remove Windows from and then install Linux onto.
The price is now $125.00 shipping included anywhere in the continental U.S.A.
