SOLD: rare S30 Thinkpad, $258+postage

Up for sale is the legendary S30 Thinkpad. Cosmetically, it's about 8.3 out of 10. Specs:

Product: ThinkPad S30 2639-42J
Specs: PIII 600MHz (256KB), 256MB RAM, 20.0GB HDD, 10.4" XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, Modem, Ethernet, 1394, Li-Ion battery, Win2000

An AC adapter is included. The keyboard is a Japanese-English keyboard with little shine. The screen looks very good. The Windows 2000 COA sticker is intact (I've blurred the product key in the photo below), and Windows 2000 is installed. The battery holds a good charge although the Battery Maximiser doesn't say exactly how much charge remains (due to the relatively old chipset). According to Win 2000, it took 4 min for the batt to discharge from 100% to 98%, so I'd say the battery lasts for anywhere between 2 and 4 hours.

There are two USB ports although the left one doesn't always work -- perhaps there's loose connection somewhere. Some of the paint on the LCD lid corners has come off (see photos). The display bezel doesn't attach well to the top right corner of the display lid, so there's a 1-mm gap at that corner (see photo); a piece of double-sided adhesive tape would fix this problem.

I offer several payment options:
1) Local pickup in Providence, or at Boston South Station on a Sunday: $258 in cash, or, if I know you well, personal check or money order.

2) If you aren't local and pay with personal check or money order: $258 plus actual shipping.

3) If you aren't local and pay with PayPal: $258 plus actual shipping plus 3% PayPal fee for U.S. buyers and 4% PayPal fee for international buyers. Credit card funded payments are encouraged.

**Take $8 off if you don't need the AC adapter**

Since the package will be light (4 pounds 4 ounces with AC adapter included), postage will be relatively cheap. You can calculate the actual postage on this site using my ZIP code 02906. I will be shipping online, so refer to the "Online Price" column.

It is perhaps worth noting that this laptop has a higher-resolution screen than the newly-announced S10 subnote.

It takes a standard 2.5" hard drive, correct?

If someone has nerves made of steel, a 10.4" AFFS screen does exist, with a 500:1 contrast ratio and 170 nits and XGA.
If it works in this system, that would be a tremendous upgrade i'm sure. So tempted to try it out, but in general one thinkpad is enough for me, and i'm low on money. :(

Otherwise an impressive machine!

I dropped the price to $280 to give you guys more incentive to buy this collector's item. New Yorkers, remember that I can deliver this laptop to you this Friday or Saturday when I'm in NYC, saving you postage and PayPal fees. Don't miss this opportunity!

I don't understand this obsession with the piano finish. People on this forum often scorn at consumer laptops for being shiny and toy-like, but somehow want the S30 to be shiny. For me, the piano finish just cheapens the laptop.

super laptop, I use it for 2 years and was really happy with it.
easily upgradble with 7200rpm HDD and by making a clean XP install with ood configuration, it only take 90mo of ram at startup!

the problem with the USB port is known and you can easily get new one from yahoo Japan auction site, very easy to sold on the motherboard. I did it, plus buying 2 big batery, this laptop was a must:)

YOU ARE KILLING ME KWOON!!!!!!!

I SOOOO want this, but am NO WHERE in the position to buy it, at this time....grrrrr

Like you, I'd rather have one without the piano finish...but at the same time, I'd like to have one of each for my collection.

Slightly off-topic, but I had a chance to buy quite a few of these as barebone systems a few years ago for $200 each. I think they had about 12 of them...double GRRRRR

I've further dropped the price to $268, and I'm offering one more option: take off $8 if you don't need the AC adapter, i.e. $260 for the S30 without AC adapter. The postage should also go down a bit because the package would be lighter, under 4 lb.

Steve, you can always pay later, just like when you bought that T21 from me last year. I know you well enough to trust that you'll pay eventually.

A few days is one thing, but it would be atleast a month right now, and I can't do that to you. Unfortuntely, all of my "spending money" has been put towards my bike. I am trying to build up my cashflow again, by selling two laptops...on YouTube.

Price drop to $258 for the laptop plus AC adapter, or $250 for the laptop without AC adapter (plus actual postage in both cases).

This is an insanely low price for this collector's item. I won't drop the price any further for several weeks, so if you want this laptop, now is the time.
