not too hard on this 570e: what is your fascination with the

The 570e is an older model thinkpad that came out well before the T42p.
The trackpad is a touchpad, where you move the cursor with your finger instead of the little red dot called a trackpoint... The trackpad is located beneath the space bar.

Well, If you buy from a reputable seller on this marketplace, you should be pretty assured the seller will ship the item. As for payment, paypal is out, credit card may be possible, or you could send a money order, which will have to clear for an extended period of time before the seller ships the goods. Can't you buy these computers in Iran?

+1 for the reputable sellers on this forum.
there are several here with extensive experience selling thinkpads worldwide.

paypal doesn't work in iran? or do you mean you're afraid that people won't ship the item to you because you live in iran? or maybe you don't trust the postal system in iran?
sort of sounds like all of the above. i guess if you're willing to wait for the money order to clear before the laptop is sent...
there isn't a computer shop anywhere near you? i imagine that a city like tehran ought to have at least a few places that sell laptops. it might be cheaper/faster to go to the city on the weekend (assuming you live close enough).

Most of the sellers here (myself included) will ship the item to you if you pay by bank-to-bank wire transfer. Process takes up to a week, but is well worth it IMHO.
Good luck.

Can you at all ship a high tech item such as a Thinkpad to Iran?
I though Iran was on the list of export-restricted countries (terrorism and such):

lol, even if there aren't, it's sad to say, but i'd rather not have that sort of transaction on my 'record', just in case i ever get audited by uncle sam... not that i'm trying to spread fud or anything, i'm just saying, our country is still suffering from that kind of mentality.

You can't. At some point you'll have to pay for your T42P and that's when your troubles will begin. Most of the world's financial (and quasi-financial) institutions won't deal with Iranian counterparties.

Make friends with someone who can enter and leave the country freely.
Ask him/her to buy you a T42p abroad and bring it back.
