It had a long hard life of sitting on her desk at home playing episodes of the office and arrested development or sitting on her desk in lab running ChemDraw. A few times a year it got to accompany her to a conference and run power point! So it is free of any major scratches, gouges, dents, bruises, marks or other signs of use!
It is a T42 Type 2373-6vu purchased in the summer of 2004. It is out of warranty. While it was under warranty IBM replaced the CPU fan and HDD once each.
Specs:
Pentium-M 1.7ghz
1 GB Ram (Upgraded, 512mb stock, 512mb Corsair)
40gb HDD (PATA 4200rpm)
14.1" XGA screen
Intel B/G wireless
The Thinkpad comes with an XP Pro CD key and its IBM restore CDs, but no OS is installed. HDD is blank. I will also include an IBM power adapter.
Battery was replaced within the last 2 years with a genuine IBM battery FRU: 08K8193 (I can not find the date it was purchased) and it holds a charge for about 1.5 hours. I do not have another t42 here so I cant get the number of cycles on it. The thinkpad was primarily used while plugged in however.
Condition:
Minor scuffs and very light scratches on the RAM door on the bottom of the thinkpad and on the top corners of the lid. As one would expect from a laptop its age.
Keyboard is good.
Screen is a little more dim then brand new, but perfectly usable.
DVD/CDRW - Works intermittently. May just be a matter of cleaning the heads, may need replacement. Neither my girlfriend or I use an optical drive more then once or twice a year so perhapse it died of boredom!
GPU issue - it will power on normally but will not output video to either the screen or an external monitor. If one removes the keyboard and puts light pressure on the ATI GPU the laptop works normally. After pressure is removed it continues to work for a short time before the issue reappears. I would not consider it usable for anything but parts until this issue is corrected.
As far as I can tell, it is a perfect canidate to send the motherboard to jamiphar for repair here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=48458 one of the other vendors repairing them: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0245381352 or attempting to repair it yourself with this guide: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=57021
Assuming it is repairable at a cost of $50-$150 (and from reading threads it seems most are) then you have the chance to get a very usable Thinkpad at a rock bottom price!
I would prefer to sell to a local buyer as we can save on shipping and avoid any potential problems there.
The Thinkpad is located in Manhattan (10028) and I would be available (with a few days notice) to show it to anyone who has a serious interest in buying. One or both of us are frequently in suburban philadelphia (19001) visiting family so it may also be possible to meet a buyer there.
For a non local buyer I will pay for UPS ground shipping in the 48 states. I would accept paypal payment but would prefer a check or USPS money order to avoid paypal fees.
Price: $165
I have 100% feedback through ebay ( http://myworld.ebay.com/atuskedwalrus ) and bought a X31 on this forum a few years ago. My own comment on that transaction is here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ht=#201643 however I cant find the sellers post.
Please post in this thread or PM me with any questions you might have!
Thanks!
