Fixed: CCFL Tube Wire Harness w/ Wires

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Mon Sep 01, 2008 7:27 pm

Basically I need this: http://www.ccfldirect.com/rewiha.html
but the shipping is $7.50 on a $3 item! If anyone has an extra one with enough wire for a 14.1" standard lcd, let me know.

(I was replacing a CCFL tube and the old wire had about 1/2 inch burnt, which made it too short to use.)

Are these connectors the same for all LCDs? I have a busted 13" LCD (from a 570 model) and can cut the connector off for you. There's about 3 inches of wire, but you could probably solder an extension...
Current Thinkpads: 600E, 600X, 701C, A31 (Flexview), R51 (Flexview), R60, T42P (Flexview), TR50E, T60 (Flexview), X61s (Ultralight), Z61m (Ti) Non-Thinkpad: Toshiba 100ct

They are the same, but that wire would be too small. I tried soldering an extension with the one I had, but the shrink tubing made the wire too wide for the channel it has to run in in the LCD panel frame. Thanks though!

Sounds like the end that's inside on the left of the LCD was burnt.
My suggestion: cut the right end of the 'burnt' cable as near to the white plug as possible.
Then pull the wire in to the left and solder that to the CCFL.
Any piece of wire would fit between the right 'leftover' and the white plug.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Unfortunately I already spliced the cable about 1/2 inch too far away from the connector for that idea to work. Bad planning on my part the necessary bend outside of the frame ended up being the splice. D'oh.

I might try looking for a cracked LCD panel cheap locally. And I'll try seeing if ccfldirect.com is willing to do a phone order with a more reasonable shipping charge.

Give me a few minutes...I might have a spare one sitting downstairs, amongst the several dead or cracked 14.1" LCDs that I have...

FYI the wire used with CCFL tubes is 28AWG stranded... very common in electronics wires. I was able to pull one from a phone cable I had lying around and use rbs's advice. Backlight isn't working yet... looks like the tube might be dead... still testing.

Mods: You can close this thread.

I know this is more of a discussion, but the harness repair was a success. But unfortunately the 2 inverters I previously using to test the backlight are dead :-/ Good news/bad news.
