SOLD: HP nc2400 w/ wrnty; 3lb, internal optical [PIX]

#1 Post by pianowizard » Thu Sep 11, 2008 1:05 pm

Up for sale is my all-time favorite laptop (and I've owned >40 Thinkpads!), the HP Business nc2400. It's under HP warranty through 25 July 2009, and it's in near-mint condition. Despite the inclusion of an internal combo drive, the laptop weighs only 3.16 lbs! As I've raved many times on this forum (e.g. this post), this HP laptop is as good as any Thinkpad I've owned. I bought it in October 2007 and it proved really useful when I traveled to conferences or to give talks. However, I won't be traveling with a laptop again for at least 7 months, so I decided to sell it. Here are the specs:

Intel U1400 Core Solo processor (1.2GHz)

1x1GB PC2-4200 RAM

60GB 1.8" 4200rpm HDD (benchmarks show that it's almost as fast as some 5400rpm HDDs)

12.1" 1280x800 matte display

CDRW/DVD combo drive, which can be easily removed to reduce the laptop weight to 2.8 lb!

built-in 802.11a/b/g wireless card

Gigabit Ethernet and modem

two USB2.2 ports

one IEEE 1394 port

VGA port, one PCMCIA slot, mic & headphone ports

Trackpoint only, no touchpad!

fingerprint reader

light-weight 65W AC adapter

3-cell battery that lasts up to 2.5 hours

Windows XP Pro COA sticker

Product recovery discs

As usual, I offer several payment options:

For local pickup: $499 in cash.

For U.S. buyers paying with a personal check or money order: $510 shipped.

For U.S. buyers paying with PayPal: $525 shipped.

For non-U.S. buyers: PM me for the exact price.

I have to laugh at a typo in a ZDNET review of this computer:
"The HP Business nc2400 is a 2.9-pound, ultra compact notebook computer. Compared to other ultra compact notebooks on the market, it is very expensive at around $72,170. Has Wi-Fi (wireless connectivity) built-in."

Yikes, you are really taking a loss here!!

Wow! I didn't think you'd ever sell this machine, Kwoon. It looks wonderful.

It'd go perfectly with my nw8240, but sadly there's the good ol' money issue and I live in the wrong part of the world to take advantage of $499 pickup. Just like The Spirit of X21 said, i never though we'd see this in the Marketplace. If you're wanting to try out a HP business laptop, this would be a perfect one to pick up.

EDIT: Not with any intent whatsoever to derail Kwoon's FS thread, but I just found a nc2400 on eBay for $640 AUD shipped (which on current exchange terms works out to around $520-530 US). Temptation hath set in...[/b]

Yeah, I really like this laptop. You probably remember that when you came to my place, I was more excited about showing this nc2400 to you than my QXGA R50p. But because I don't need a laptop while traveling in the next 7 to 15 months, there's no reason to hold on to it. BTW, I forgot to mention that local buyers are welcome to pick it up in person for $499!

$499, eh? That's a great price, considering it's only $100 more than most netbooks currently on the market and the buyer would have much more functionality in a system that's practically new (folks, I have seen and held Kwoon's machine for myself, and let me tell you it is in near-new condition.)

I own an HP NC2400 and I would not sell it, it is way more functional than an x40 and with the built in optical drive and a couple 6-cell batteries I went from LA to Sydney without any problems.

That's so true. Before discovering the nc2400, I had owned about a dozen X-series Thinkpads ranging from the X20 to the X61 tablet. I tried very hard to like them but just couldn't, beause each one had certain imperfections that bothered me. Even in terms of build quality (Thinkpads' main forte), this HP beats them all. The base is especially solid, more solid than most Thinkpads I've used.
