Need to Buy: Plastic insert for CD-ROM bay
Need to Buy: Plastic insert for CD-ROM bay
I never use my CD-ROM so I plan to just remove it to save weight. Does Lenovo sell some sort of plastic insert to cover the hole?

RE:placeholder
I can't find any placeholder, but you could put in an empty hard drive adapter to save weight.

Is the weight difference of the drive really so significant to you?
If I had no use for the CD/DVD drive, I'd rather put a secondary battery in there...

I thought that FRU number was a little vague. Even for T60's and T61's the FRU was the same (IIRC), but there were different molds used for each. Now they use the same for the new T models too?

You don't understand. I'm not denying they are using the same number for this part. I'm stating that they have been using this FRU number for at least two different versions of the same part.rada wrote:Radioguy: Same FRU: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Lenovo-UltraBay-Cove ... dZViewItem
I remember seeing posts about this previously, where people claimed there were versions that were snug with a T41 or T61, and ones that weren't, but both versions had the same FRU number. Now the same number is being used for the travel bezel for the new T series, and I wonder if a third now exists.

My guess would be that the ones that were not snug were not genuine IBM/Lenovo parts but aftermarket.Radioguy wrote:...

No, because if you look at that auction, you'll see the compatible models the seller lists. That cross section does use travel bezels that have the same FRU number, yet drive bays that are not the same size. Plus, I believe in previous posts that people acquired the different sized bezels through Lenovo/IBM directly. In case you're wondering about the fit: a 13N5108 that came out when the T41 was new should fit that model snugly, but the same one will bounce around in the T6* drive bay.
Who knows about a T400/500.

Unfortunately, that's not the case with all the 13N5108 bezels.
The one you have might be fine between those two drivebays, but the FRU number was also used for T41 bezels etc. They just aren't the same size.
Additionally, 62P4331 and 13N5108 seem to be interchangeable despite one being curved, and one flat, but even among flat bezels, there is variation.

The insert that came with my X200 UltraBase fits the T400 and is P/N 44C0691. There is no FRU on that thing though. The older insert that came with the X60 and X61 Ultrabase are P/N 62P4331 and they don't fit the T400 bay. One could probably modify the older inserts to fit the new bay as they are only a little different in one corner (see picture).

Thanks for confirming that. At least they had the good sense to issue a new FRU number this time.DirkM wrote:The insert that came with my X200 UltraBase fits the T400 and is P/N 44C0691.
