LF: Cheap wireless PCI card for desktop

#1 Post by tfflivemb2 » Sun Sep 28, 2008 2:07 pm

Anyone have a cheap wireless card for a Desktop? It doesn't matter if it is a B or a G card, as long as it is cheap.

My wife rearranged my son's room, so that his desk is no longer near the LAN connection. I'd prefer not to have to run cable around the room to get to his computer, since we have a 1 year old that thinks that she can go ANYWHERE in the house that she'd like.

Laziness is preventing me from removing the one from my wife's computer downstairs and bringing it up for my son. (Someone knicked the LAN cord that connects her office, which is where the laziness comes in....I don't feel like repairing the wire)

Sorry, I don't have a card for you, but I just have to say I must be more lazy than you are, because I wouldn't want to have to remove the side panel from the box to install a PCI card. I would just plug in a wireless USB unit and be done with it. :D

Ah, but see, you overlooked the fact that Steve is "cheap" :) . I'd think that a USB WiFi adapter would cost more than a throw-away PCI card.

I have a PCI AOpen AOI-831 B/G card here. But i dont have an antenna for it.
I dont want anything for it(just shipping) but by the time you add shipping and buy an antenna for it , you might find one cheaper.

FYI, if you have one near you, Microcenter has one by Trendnet for $8.99. Sale ends today, but there will probably be something similar for the next month.

steve, i still have this one for sale.   i can't compete with microcenter's price though.

i bought it because i needed server 2008 x64 compatibility.   it was used for a few weeks in my thinkstation while i was running ethernet across the house.

Steve is looking for a "cheap" solution
I think the proper phrase is "Steve is frugal".
