Should have no trouble finding these on the Internet. I went with 2 new 13R2657 fans from a reliable vendor, versus used - to avoid problems and having to repeat any installation later.

I am looking for a new one so that I only have to do it once. Who did you buy yours from?

I just purchased a couple of these directly from IBM.

That's a good price from IBM.

I opted to go with ACS Outlet, who supplied and also installed new 13R2657 fans in both my T42 notebooks. After a year's use, the fans are extremely quiet and powerful. I understand the 41W5204 is in essence the same fan.

I'm extremely picky about fan noise. I have a 13R2657 in my T42, and then the 41W5204 fans I just replaced in two T41 units. Regarding the noise, I wouldn't hesitate to use a 41W5204 as a replacement fan.

I have also ordered the 41W5204 from sparepartswarehouse.com in the past. The price is very close to IBM. However, it came shipped from IBM. I just decided to save the difference in cost and order from IBM directly. Also, I was a bit concerned that I may receive one of the alternate part numbers (ie. order a 13R2657 and receive a 41W5204 instead).

I will go ahead and order from IBM (I wish they had a cheaper shipping option in addition to next day). It looks like the 13R2657 is more expensive than 41W5204. I thought the 2 part numbers are interchangable - What am I missing? Again, I have a T42P. What is the difference between the two?

Thanks

The 13R2657 is the older model and less of these around. Both are the long fan models which extend the heat sink to the GPU.

They're probably the quietest fans for the T4x series, and have a higher current rating for more air flow.
