French Canadian T42 15" Keyboard

#1 Post by Nabeel » Fri Oct 10, 2008 11:06 pm

Hey guys,

I was cleaning up some stuff, and I found two T42 keyboards, brand new, still in the IBM box and wrapper, with the instructions. I forgot exactly why I have them (lol) they sent a replacement, except it was the european, and then they sent a US one.

So 20 bucks a piece, $5 shipping.
If you need pictures, I can post 'em.

Edited based on mod's post below:

They are made in Thailand, both of em (written on the box as well), for the 14.1" model. The FRUs are:

SOLD 08K5044 - US

93P4783 - French Canadian

Thanks guys!

What are the FRUs for each keyboard? Prospective buyers will be keen to know whether these are for 14" or 15" T4xs(I'd guess 14 based on the model number in your sig), and whether or not they are the much sought after NMB Thai keyboards. The FRU should help determine both of these factors.

If the deal falls through on the 08K5044, I'd like to be next in line.

Thanks!

Sounds good. Where do you lookup the FRU number? I been searchin but just find a page for the parts that came with your system.

The keyboard FRU (number) should be printed on the box they came in - otherwise look at the keyboard itself; the P/N and FRU is printed on a label at the rear - like what you see in the first images in the thread T42 Thai (NMB), China (Alps) Keyboard Impressons (long). By the way, your keyboards may also be used for R5x ThinkPad's:
According to the thread R50 keyboard into a T42 or T43? underclocker, in his post of Wed Jan 02, 2008 8:57 am, wrote:I can also confirm that 14" T4x and R5x keyboards are swappable, as are 15" T4x and R5x keyboards.

You can not swap between 14" and 15" models of either type. They have different screw/bolt patterns and quantities.
You can check what manufacturer the keyboards were made by, and whether they are for 14.1" or 15" ThinkPad's through the sites Keyboard service parts - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p.

That is not a Euro(pean) keyboard, but a French Canadian for a 15" Thinkpad!

AHA! It seems you're correct. And I looked at the mount points, the mounts below the mouse buttons are different. No wonder it didn't fit my thinkpad!!

Well, topic has been revised. Thanks!
