I have for sale three new (= unused) DVD-RW dual-layer burners, the so-called ThinkPad ”Super Multi-Burner Slim” (9.5 mm high). All drives comes with burning software.

The drives are compatible with: R50, R50e, R50p, R51, R52, R61, R61e, T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p, T60, T60p, T61, T61p, X40, X41, X41t, X4 Dock, UltraBase X4, X60, X60s, X61, X61s, UltraBase X6, X6 Tablet UltraBase, Z60e, Z60t, Z60m, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t, ThinkPad Advanced Dock.

The drives are having a flat bezel (used on e.g. T60’s) – which is cosmetically different from the curved bezel used on e.g. T4x ThinkPad’s. The drives will however work on e.g. T4x ThinkPads, the only thing being that the (flat) bezel in this case will not be completely flush with the (curved) T4x right side.

These drives can also be configured as lightweight external DVD burners – e.g using this adapter or using this USB 2.0 external case/Caddy.

The three drives are:

What does "the power tap cable , do not use at same time." mean on the eBay ad for USB bay adapters?

Well, my best answer to this question is an assumption: Since the USB 2.0 external case/Caddy made reference to is primarily intended for having has its DC power sourced by the USB ports, two USB ports are probably necessary on the PC that this external drive is connected to... since one (high-power) USB port is capable of sourcing max. 0.5 A @ 5V. Therefore, if the DVD-RW itself draws more than 0.5 A (and less than 1 A), then a "Y-cable" is necessary, like what is used on many external 2.5" USB HDD's. If the PC that this external DVD-RW is connected to has however only one USB port available, then this single port is not sufficient/capable of sourcing the DC power needed. In such case I assume that the DC-connector that you see on the cable (if you left-click on the second image under "Products Display") may be connected to some DC power supply. If connecting both of the the USB "Y-cable" (large, "A-type" - see here) connectors to the PC, then the CD-connector is not needed. My best explanation, but ask the eBay seller if you want a 100% correct reply.

Bump! These drives are still available. Price reduction! Now asking asking $85 for the 39T2677 and $90 for the 39T2851 shipped to lower 48 US states. Worldwide shipping also available, as discussed above.

Who is manufacturer of these drives?

Answer: 39T2677 - Manufacturer: Panasonic, Model No. UJ-842Z (labeled "DVD-Multi II") and 39T2851 - Manufacturer: Panasonic, Model No. UJ-852 (labeled "DVD-Multi III"). One 39T2851 has been sold, one is still left. The 39T2677 is also still available. Although, as already mentioned, these are both the "flat bezel" type drives, they may also be used for "curved bezel" ThinkPad's (e.g. T40/T41/T42/T43's) - and in this relation, I just came across two additional pieces of interesting information:
...and this was replied in the same thread:
snife wrote:I just tried this and it is possible, I found 2 drives which had the buttons in the same place and got the bezels off with a paperclip and some brute force.

I used a UJDA745 and a UJ842, so i'm assuming that you will need the same manufacturer to ensure the buttons and clips are in the same place
... but this modification may not even be necessary, because:
