TP for under $200?

My aunt from Vietnam is over and would like to bring a cheap laptop back to vietnam with her for her daughter (my cousin). I recently purchased a x31 for 216USD (with shipping) for myself and am very happy with my purchase (thanks for the help!). So I was thinking of getting one for my cousin as well.

Her budget is a bit different then mine though, and would like one for below $200. I'm not sure what models are reliable and reasonably fast. I was thinking the x2x series, but I'm not sure how comparable they are to the x31.

I'm basically looking for a model that is not huge and chunky (as a small asian girl will be carrying it around) and with usable specs (I think she just uses it for internet (email, chat), and music) for below $200. Nothing spectacular is needed, but no turtle either. I don't know much outside of the x-series, so any suggestions of any model would be appreciated!

X3x seem to be well beyond your aunt's budget, but a T23 should be within her possibilities.
It's a bit heavier than an X2x though.
Comes with 14.1" screen in XGA or SXGA+, with or without built in wifi (can also use PCMCIA wifi), RAM up to 2x512MB.
Check your local Craigslist or eBay.
If it weren't for your living in Canada (with shipping from USA of nearly $50.-), I would have been happy to sell you a nicely configured T23.

I have a clean X24 with WiFi card that's much like your X31 (I have one of those, too), but Canada makes it difficult to keep it under $200.00.

Yeah, that's why I was lucky to buy my x31 on ebay from a canadian seller. (though their shipping was a flat rate for both the US and canada - how come canadian sellers always have cheaper shipping to the US then they have to canada?)

I know under $200 is a bit hard to find, but I think x31 is much higher than what she needs. Something less, but can still surf the net (ie msn, yahoo) and can play mp3 files is fine. But also something reasonable in size...

An X31 or T40/T41 would be a nice way to go.

Here you go, a T40 (missing AC adapter only) under $200 Buy It Now, available right now! --> http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-T40-DVD-Wireles ... 0279596798

I didn't say it'd be easy, but with a little effort, you'll find some nice machines available, occasionally, in that price range. (You can review the sold items to confirm these prices, too.)

It's a time (your time searching/waiting) versus money equation.

Might be worth the time to keep an eye on this seller. He has a T6x A/C adapter for $9.99 with reasonable shipping.

Sure. I kept eye on him and bought an X40 for $230 shipped to Russia. It already passed the customs and is arriving within a week. 8)

Received my X40 on October, 23. The cosmetic shape is far from nice, most notable is the corner of the display lid torn off (like 5 mm) and the battery latch is broken in the way that it does not release the battery (thought I did not try properly for I have no need to change the battery yet, it is 70% of original with 100 cycles).

I decided to keep it for a partial refund, so that is what my Thinkpad X40 for $195 shipped to Russia looks like:

Overall, satisfied.

I believe BobA is selling T40 XGAs under $200 might want to take a look. Bought a T42P from him some time back and no complaints doing business with him.
