Not sure where to ask this question..
Looking for a value of a used Thinkpad.

A guy here in town has a used T43 for sale.
But he dont have a ac adapter and he cant test it out so it's more of a AS system now.Take it as it is.
It said to me to make an offer on it.He wont give me a price.
I sort of know the guy, he's my buddys friend. He's not the type of guy to sell a stolen laptop. Long story where he got it.(from his father who he dont see alot)

I'm thinking of a price of $100.00 to 150.00 because it's not tested.

Take an AC adapter with you and test it. I agree with your price range untested given the cost of systemboard replacement.,

The good news is that it has the Intel video chip, and not the ATI GPU chip, which means that if there isn't a problem, chances are it is NOT the infamous GPU issue.

Thanks for the replies.
I never thought about the video chip problem in the T4x's.
But as tfflivemb2 said it's Intel so chances are the video is fine.
But this guy is being way to pushy on getting me to buy it.
I must have gotten about 10 e-mails from him yesterday and today asking me when i'm going to pick it up from him. Even tho there was no price given.
I keep saying it will be a few days before i can make it up and have a look at it.
My spidey senses are tingling on this now so i may just pass on it.

I'm always suspicious on laptops that are for sale that are not tested and no ac adapter and never turned on by the owner. And are in a big hurry to get rid of it fast.

I'm always on the look out for good deals on Thinkpads BUT dont want to ever buy a stolen laptop.

No AC adapter, unless its from a business selling you like 10 laptops, tends to mean stolen, especially if they are pushy. I usually trust my spidey senses, some things just aren't worth the trouble. But you could always ask him for a photocopy of his drivers license.

As for value, it being a T43, untested $150 would still be a decent deal, $100 better. Even if the motherboard was bad, you could part it out and make back more than your investment.
