I need some help with pricing of the following T42 machine.

ThinkPad T42 2373-B09
Processor: Pentium M 725
RAM: 1GB RAM (single DIMM)
Hard drive: 60GB 7200rpm
LCD: 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT
Video: 64MB ATI Radeon 9600
Optical drive: None
Wireless: IBM 802.11a/b/g
Usual stuff: Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip,
6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

No warranty left.

The machine has some good and some bad aspects.

Good
* No shine on keyboard and touchpad.
* Top panel looks excellent.
* Apart from the following everything else is in excellent shape.

Bad
* The PCMCIA slot door is missing.
* There is about 1" by 1.5" section of the screen on the lower right side of LCD that shows lighter colors than the rest of the screen.
* Got snagged in the laptop bag and now there is a small plastic piece missing from the rear left side of the base.

What does the forum think will be a reasonable price for this machine? Thanks in advance.

Edit: The machine is up for sale now. As the forum suggested, $295 OBRO shipped to CONUS. Shared shipping for the rest of the world.

syedj, I would say $300 to $325 depending on the buyer. You can always reduce the price by a few dollars if there are no offers at $325.

It's sounds like it just needs an optical drive ($25) and a new base ($25 + 90 minutes of labor) to be in excellent condition, save the LCD defect.

It's not clear if the area is a line or a circle, or how dramtic the color change is.

The drive, memory and LCD are the strong specs. Without more info on the LCD, I'd say maybe $300 delivered. (Maybe $350 if you add the combo optical and swap out the base.)

The area on the LCD is actually two small circular areas, I just combined them for the sake of simplicity. The imperfection is more evident over a light background. Its not per se color difference but more like this area is brighter than rest of the LCD real estate.

Perhaps I should add that for the lack of a 14" SXGA+ machine in my possession I had been using this machine as my main rig (can't carry 15" T60p everywhere) for the past 1.5 months without any issues. Because of the 1GB RAM and faster hard drive it seems as zippy as any T42 can be. There is NO body flex, certainly NO GPU issues and the hinges seem tight as new with no flex. The imperfection of the LCD has never distracted me or hindered my ability to do any real work.

Doesn't sound too bad.

Here is another T42 (actually, T42p) available from a forum member as a comparison.

Price reduced. I will consider reasonable offers as well.
