WTB: X31 or X41 instead of netbook

#1 Post by dwilsonfl » Sat Nov 15, 2008 8:53 am

I really have the CAS (computer acquisition syndrome) for a netbook like the S10, but I try really hard to buy older. So I am looking at X series 12" machines on eBay.

closer to $200 the better

if you have one sitting around, shoot me a PM or email at david.wilson@gmail.com

thanks

From what I hear, you should stay away from the X4x series with their proprietary 1.8" hard disks, that are hard to find, slow and expensive.

it depends on what you're looking for. they have slight differences that the original poster might care about (see the X3x/X4x forum).

i thought long and hard between the two, and chose to get the X41, which i'm thrilled with.

purchased a X31 w/base on eBay tonight.

need a good battery, anyone???

will be moving some RAM and maybe the 100gig 7200rpm HD from my t40/41 machine to max it out

don't think it has built in wireless, I will be looking for antennas

so we'll see if it satisfies

FYI, every X31 has antennae installed, but may or may not have the card.

Congrats and hopefully it'll serve you well.

Ah eBay, gotta love it.

So, I was expecting delivery today given the sellers policy of shipping next day after payment, but instead I get a note through ebay from them
Sorry after double check the description and our mistake did not take off the item come with media base. The item picture does not have it .Do you still want it .If you don't we will full refund back to your paypal account
Thank you
Here's the item in question: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123

Pretty clear in the description and note the picture with the media base.

Not sure about whether to accept their generous offer to ship me less for the same price, or take the refund. Media base might add another $30-40 I guess.

Should have resisted the urge and bought off here.

David,
I can't get to that page, but it's against my personal principles to accept anything less than what I paid for. I'd go for a refund, or ask the seller to refund $40 and still ship the machine. I agree that you are better off looking here for used machines.

I offered to still take it if he refunded $35 and shipped priority. We'll see what he does, but I expect him to turn it down. Pay Pal resolution will take the better part of 30 days and he'll lose, but that money will be lost to me until then and he'll sit on the laptop too.

He turns it down, I'll go for the refund within 3 days.

update - he did

I gave him a three day opportunity to refund in full. Then I'll file a dispute with pay Pal.

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that you're going in to all this because he wanted to throw in the media base for free??

Or did I misread something?

he listed the media base in the title of the eBay listing. The pictures accompanying also showed it. 5 days later, when I expected UPS to show up at the door with the X31, I received a note explaining they made a mistake, and did I want a refund, or the item without the media base at the same price.

I offered to take the item (late and without the media base) if he would make a partial refund to cover the cost of purchasing a media base for the unit. $35 was the last 4 sales on eBay for that item.

He refused and stated he would refund the full total I paid.

I am giving him three days to do just that or I will file a dispute with Pay Pal and rip him a new one on his seller's ratings.

Clear?

My suspicion is he sees an opportunity to resell the X31 and get more than he did from me and no downside for backing out of the contract.

Buyers have precious little leverage on eBay, and I'm trying to ensure a speedy return of my money so I can purchase something else.

Yes, makes sense. :D I saw that I did misread.

Read that as, "ship me more for the same price." Funny how one word changes an entire perception of what's going on...
