WANTED:: 16ea Thinkpads / $350 each, max.

Hi,

I am the volunteer IT consultant for a new charter
school in here in Minnesota, and the school needs 16 ThinkPads of the
same type in our price range which is $350 each. Since I'm the guy who
gets to build the image, I want them to be able to all use the same base
image so I can stamp them out quickly.

Currently, IBM Refurbished does not have 16 of the same type of machine.
Does anyone know of an honest re-seller who might be able to assist us?

Many Thanks,

Sam
Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

I commend your volunteerism.

Do you have any minimum specification requirements?

Thanks Brad. It is a lot of work, but a lot of fun too.

We are looking for something like 1.6GHz Minimum, 512MB RAM Minimum, Windows XP Pro, WiFi (b/g).

These systems will just be used for students to take tests.

Thanks,

Sam

Sam

Try and PM BobA.
He seems to be able to come up with larger quantities.

That is a tall order to fill!

I strongly suggest you take a look at this eBay ad and contact the seller. He has been selling these nicely equipped R60's one at a time for under $350. He has sold many. (I have no experience with this seller, but his feedback is stellar.)

R60's are internally like T60's, but are slightly thicker and heavier. They are Core Duo and are seriously worth considering at $339 each (or less in bulk).

As another option, Lenovo routinely has an entry level ThinkPad model (brand new) in the $400 range. Something like an R61e (15.4" widescreen w/very fast Celeron CPU). You could contact a Lenovo rep. or reseller and inquire about the quantity you need and mention the school. Perhaps an education status and the bulk purchase can get the price for new equipment into your range.
