So my D&D group has an A31 with a dead LCD. The laptop works when connected to an external CRT / LCD.
I do not know the 7 digit machine type # at this time, but will have the laptop in my hands tomorrow afternoon at which time far more technical information will be made available to me.
We have a budget of $80 shipped for this, we might possibly need an inverter as well but as I said we are not sure until I am able to get the machine in my hands to verify the problem.
Remember: This purchase is my not by me, but by some friends in a gaming group.
They say hi, and thanks.
There are 3 of us with Thinkpads now (A T42, a T60 and a another T60). If we get the A31 up and running it can bump off the PBG4 being used in it's place.

Like I said, I haven't seen the machine.
All I know it that it is an A31.
Are there 14" A31's or are they all 15"?
My experience is in the T23, 30, 4x and 6x line of machines.

A31s exist in both 14" and 15" versions.
All 14" are XGA, while 15" can be XGA or SXGA+...
Once you've figured out what the machine is, post back with results and we'll take it from there...

I have a 15" SXGA+ if the XGA doesn't work out but I gaurantee the backlight in George's will be brighter.

Machine type is:

According to IBM here are the specs:
Features and specifications
Processor Intel Mobile Pentium M at 1.6GHz, 1.7GHz, 1.8Ghz, or 2.0GHz
Memory 128MB or 256MB and supports up to 1GB maximum memory
Hard drive 30GB, 40GB, or 60GB sizes
Display 14.1" TFT or 15.1" TFT display
Graphics ATI RADEON 7500 or FIREGL 7800 Mobility video chipset
CD and DVD drive Ultrabay CD, DVD, or CD-RW/DVD drives
Networking Integrated 802.11b wireless (select models)
Security Security chip
Battery Lithium Ion in a 6 cell configuration
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000
So it would appear that a 15" XGA is the order of the day then?

Ok it turns out that I still need an LCD for this unit.
I know there is a good one out there somewhere in ThinkPad Land.
So:
BUMP for still needing a
working LCD unit.
Thanks!
