t20-t23 frankenstien
most of the parts are t20 but the cpu is 900 mghz from a t23 , i didnt do it just bought it this way so i think it was dropped in ,
but its the same family t20-t23's are all pretty much identical

T23 didn't have 900 CPU, only 866 MHz, 1.0, 1.13 and 1.2 GHz.
It has to be from T22, otherwise it wouldn't work on T20 mobo (different cores, voltages and bus speeds).

even though that solves a mystery that i have pondered for a while , its not what i was looking for hehehe ... darn internet gremlins , start a thread for one thing and end up solving another , sounds like an internet paradox
so regardless any one got a cd burner or dvd/cd burner that would fit my craptop ?
cause id love to be able to toast a few cd's while im out instead of having to wait till i get home to my desktop ....

I believe that I have a few brand new in sealed box. I'll have to look through the closet to find them and see if my memory serves me correctly.

The Sony and the Aopen will both work
PROVIDED you steal the rails off of an UltraBay Drive, and a Floppy drive can not be a donor
I have used the Sony extensively
The price on these are about the same as a IBM OEM, but they are faster!

[censored] , its like youve been asked that one b4 eh ? cause i have a crappy floopy that i was thinking of doing that with , but to no avail i see .. so whats the price on just rails ? maybe i can salvage them off ebay or something , hell i dont really even care if its in there with no rails ... muhaha , cause im bout to get another thinkpad and the current dvd rom can not donate to the new one unfortuantly , that links within price range now i just need to see about some rails ,
unless of course the other gentleman who might have a few tucked in the closet has them with rails ?
please let me kno, thanks all ,

I have seen CD-Roms on FleaBay for as little as $4.99, but shipping was not that cheap.
Here is the How To
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_bu ... aBay_drive
Also if you have access to just about any other laptop, it MAY work.
I just swiped the DVD RW from my wifes blown up Everex, which happened to be a Sony.
Some were a tiny bit tight, but none required really required work for consistent fit, you do need to tweak the corner to make it clear the release.

OK, it's a big closet, but I found them. I have four new in unopened box, IBM P/N 73P3312
Thinkpad Multi-Burner Plus Ultrabay Enhanced Drive
I believe this is the description on the Lenovo site.

Let me know if you're interested.

If those are them, then they won't fit inside a T2x unless you have a special adapter:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 53011.html
That Lenovo page only says "T30" systems but I think it will work inside a T2x as well (it is an Ultrabay 2000 after all). As far as I know, these adapters are fairly rare and will probably be pricey if you do find them.
@spydergt: You can further your Frankenpad by getting a "bare drive" like a Panasonic (aka M a t s u s h i t a or Matshita) UJ-820 or UJ-840 and transferring the Ultrabay 2000 rails and rear IDE connector.

OK you guys made me open one of the boxes. It actually comes with an adapter that screws on and will fit the T2x series of laptops. I'll test it out either tonight or tomorrow on a T20 or T23.
