**SOLD**: HP nc2400 Ultraportable Laptop - New Condition

#1 Post by Harryc » Mon Dec 15, 2008 1:56 pm

I am forced to sell my favorite laptop to fund another project. It is an HP nc2400 Code Duo laptop, with a dock, in new condition, under warranty until 7/16/2010. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this model, it's slightly smaller and lighter than an X31 or X32, and it has an internal DVDRW Multiburner. Another thing I like is that it has a trackpoint, just like a Thinkpad. It has very, very solid construction, and is built like a tank. I personally prefer this model over any ultraportable including X60/61's.

Same here. This is one of the several laptops recently introduced by HP and Dell that made me realize that Thinkpads are no longer the only high-quality laptops out there. In fact, due to that observation and the fact that the U.S. economy is in a terrible shape, I have decided to buy only HP, Dell (I'm considering the Vostro 1710) or IBM-made computers in the future. Lenovo's latest Thinkpads are too ugly for my liking anyway.

Kind of a coincidence that you're selling yours too, Harry. I sold mine last week and shipped it off yesterday...only difference is that I'm funding a guitar based "project" as opposed to another laptop.

These machines are excellent, and quite speedy as well. I've never used an X6x machine, but it far surpasses any other ultraportable I've ever used.

The more I look it, the more I like it. On the paper seems really better than an X6x, with the included dvd-rw in that weight.

What's the max memory supported ? 2GB or 4 ?
How's the screen compared to the X3/4/6 in relation to viewing angles and uniformity ?
Battery life under normal use ?

Also (I know, I'm curious), how do you think is in relation to maintenance ? I doubt as easy as a Thinkpad but ... (I'm curious , I know)

About maintenance, I have no idea because I've never used HP maintenance. I suspect a Google search might have some answers for you on that. The Max. memory has already been reached in this machine, 2GB RAM. Battery life is around 6 hours with power settings tweaked for battery savings.

The LCD is very nice, uniformity is excellent, but the viewing angle and other aspects are highly personal and subjective. It is bright and clear, but it is a TFT display. You have to set the LCD at the right angle for clearest display.

Why do you doubt that? HP provides detailed maintenance manuals for their laptops. Go to hp.com , type "nc2400" in the search box, click on "Product manuals", and then "Service and maintenance information". Download the 4.10MB PDF file.

I agree with pianowizard, that maintenance manuals from HP are every bit as good as Thinkpad manuals.

I got an older HP Pavilion N5415 that needed some work before I sold it on eBay. It was a good manual, and HPs are easy to work on (once you know how to open them  ).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
