2) Laptop is a little over a year old. Put about 60 hours of use on the laptop. The Laptop is in MINT - Like New condition both mechanically and cosmetically(No dents, cracks, dings, or scratches.) Also just freshly loaded and upgraded windows vista from 32 bit to 64 bit.

I have 100% positive feedback with 193 transactions.

Lenovo has a one year warranty and it just ran out on 2008-09-11. If you choose to you can buy an additional one year warranty from lenovo for $169 i never did it because to me the laptop is MINT. This warranty is called post-warranty annual maintenance agreement.(http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...ocid=TPAD-PWMA)
I deemed it pointless to upgrade the warranty on a like new laptop. Keep in mind the original warranty or post-warranty annual maintenance agreement would not cover parts that you put on aftermarket. For example i upgraded the hard drive, ram, and operating system so lenovo would not cover those since they are not from lenovo.

Durability

It’s built like a tank. If you read a review of any ThinkPad, one thing you are sure to notice is how it is built for durability. For example the lid is attached to the base with two large metal hinges so that in the long run it doesn’t loosen up. There is an outer frame around the LCD which protects you screen from any material sneaking in when you throw your laptop into your carrying case. Hard disk

Preventive failure in mobile computing has arrived. The active protection system consistently monitors the movement of the laptop with an accelerometer and parks the Hard disk within 500 milliseconds, if it detects a potential fall or any movement which can deliver a damaging shock to the hard disk. Now that is what you call the “coolness factor”. [Whitepaper]. Further to this, the hard drive is also equipped with Air Bags (the technology you find in automobiles) and a shock absorber (acts like a bumper in your vehicle) to reduce the amount of shock passed on to the drive.

The latest ThinkPads are equipped with 7200 RPM hard drives from Hitachi, which recently acquired the hard drive operations from IBM. Hitachi developed a new component called “femto” for the hard drives that supports the read/write head above the surface of the disk. This reduces the power consumption, and increases performance. Keyboard

This is one area where competing vendors are eating IBM dust. IBM has managed to fit in a full size keyboard, yes ladies and gentlemen, you read correctly…a FULL SIZE keyboard. You can’t find any review about a ThinkPad that does not praise the beauty of the ThinkPad keyboard. The keyboard conforms to the ISO 9204 Spec. Here are some extracts from the spec,

“Actuation of a key shall be accompanied by feedback. Feedback can be kinaesthetic, auditory or some combination of them. If the design allows only one method, then kinaesthetic feedback is preferred”

The Keyboard is so unbelievable. Once you get used to it, you can’t possibly use another keyboard. There are people out there who are ripping of old ThinkPad keyboards and finding some way to fix them to their personal computers. They simply cannot live without it. I understand completely.


TrackPoint

I have disabled the Touch Pad on my ThinkPad. I don’t think I will ever use any other pointing device other than my beloved TrackPoint. TrackPoint history is as long as ThinkPad itself. The man behind this invention is Ted Selker. He fought hard to get his invention to market within IBM. The stories about the TrackPoint are very interesting. For example, the initial design of the TrackPoint was black. Since it got lost in the black keyboard they decided to make it Red. However IBM standards dictated that nothing can be red in a machine except the emergency power switch. So the team decided to call it Magenta instead of red. Ingenious. This is a story to prove that the passion in people is as important as the technology in machine itself.


ThinkLight

The ThinkLight is a LED placed at the top edge of the display which can shed some light onto your keyboard in low light condition, making it easier to type. “So what” you say? Well, apparently for some co-operations the ThinkLight has been the key deciding factor when selecting a ThinkPad over other notebook brands. One such company is Lufthansa which selected the ThinkPad over other notebooks because the ThinkLight made pilots lives so much more easier in the low light conditions of an aircraft cockpit. Once again the “coolness factor”. Will this pleasure ever end?

There are dual antennas placed on both sides of the display for optimal signal reception. This link provides more information than what I could write here.


ThinkPad Cooling

This is another research spanning out from the IBM labs. I have scene some Siemens LifeBooks back at office that make more noise and get hotter than a used car. ThinkPad does not worry you with any of those problems. It uses Thermal Hinge technology to keep your notebook cool.


Embedded Security Subsystem

This topic deserves a blog on its own. The Embedded Security Subsystem became so cool with the introduction of the Finger Print Scanner on the ThinkPad. The main problem enterprises faces is getting people to use good passwords and getting them to change and maintain their personal security regularly. The ThinkPad re-writes the security paradigm with the introduction of the breakthrough Finger Print scanner. You could argue that finger print scanner is not something new to the notebooks and Samsung X10 Plus already has a finger print scanner. However those are touch scanners rather than a swipe scanner. IBM introduced the swipe scanner which solved many problems found in a touch scanner. One of the problems the swipe scanner solves is that the user now has to drag their fingertip across the scanner, and therefore there is no way to "lift" a fingerprint from the surface. ThinkVantage Technology

This is more suitable if you want to deploy a ThinkPad across your enterprise. In such cases the purchase cost of any notebook accounts only to 20% of the TCO. IBM has developed a set of technologies called ThinkVantage which address the other 80%. If you are a small company here is a classic case study as to how a ThinkPad deployment can increase productivity and help you to build an office where people just love to come to work each day.

IBM reached its 10 millionth ThinkPad customer in the year 2000. In 2003 they reached the 20 million mark. 100% growth in 3 years. No it does not.

The 32 bit original hard drive does. The system didnt come with disks but it matches the label on bottom of the laptop to the operating system.

It is licensed to run on tons of pc's or laptops.



A nice thing about 64 bit vs 32 bit vista business that you get to use 4 gb of ram instead of 3gb of ram.

Also now it runs as a dual channel so it is much better than before.

Price is $1250 obo. Your getting a lot for the money. Cmon folks this is pretty much a steal considering how loaded it is and it is like new.

Keep in mind the graphics card on this laptop is actually better than the graphics cards lenovo puts in the new series T400 and T500.

They use ATI mobility radeon 3470 which is strictly a gaming graphics card. The graphics card on my laptop the nVIDIA Quadro FX 570 is mainly for CAD or 3D design/Rendering.
However you can still play games on it as well whereas on the new lenovo you will not really be able to use CAD or 3D design as efficiently as you would on my laptop.

So if youre thinking of buying the lenovo T400 or T500 please reconsider and buy mine.

just an FYI but 3GB (2GB+1GB) runs in asynchronous dual-channel mode and is immeasurably slower than synchronous dual-channel mode (ie: 1GB+1GB, 2GB+2GB, or 4GB+4GB).   you'll never be able to tell the difference between asynchronous and synchronous modes unless you're a robot.

Ummmm, IBM doesn't make ThinkPads, hasn't since 2005.

Oh, as for the Mac World, well I should hope that a modern ThinkPad is better than a PowerBook as the newest, best and latest PowerBook was introduced in 2005. Just as IBM no longer makes ThinkPads, Apple no longer makes PowerBooks, they do, however, make some very nice MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. Also, while IBM no longer makes ThinkPads, Lenovo of China makes them, just as they made the one you have for sale.

These batteries are pretty hard to find on Ebay. You can find "knock-off" non genuine lenovo batteries on Ebay but to me the risk of damage to the laptop is not worth the $50 savings.

The 9 cell lenovo t61p battery is almost impossible to find on Ebay but a completed listing shows they go for $150:

Someone asked me if i would be willing to sell the laptop without the hard drive.

I can take the seagate momentus 320gb 7200rpm out and sell it to you for $1025 if anyone would be interested to get a slightly lower price.

I wouldnt recommend taking the hard drive out though as it made a drastic difference on the laptop. Also keep in mind it has windows vista 64bit loaded onto it so that alone could be worth $150.

But anyways thought i would give people on the forum an update. I believe my laptop will be sold soon.

That is correct. I am including one 6 cell battery which sits flush with the lenovo t61p back and one 9 cell battery which sticks out from the back of the lenovo t61p.

These are genuine lenovo batteries not "knock-offs".

Depending on what you use the laptop for the 6 cell battery or the 9 cell battery can be useful for different situations. If needed you can keep one charged and use it as a spare in case you feel that you will have no power outlet for a few hours.

WTS the laptop for $1025 but i keep the 9 cell battery for this price.

No it came from a business environment and was upgraded.

It does not have the disc. Product key is valid.

You can buy the hard drive that was originally with the laptop for $40 which had vista business 32 bit on it and the product key matches the bottom of the laptop if you would be interested in buying the lenovo t61p.

I'm sorry but the hard drive was upgraded as well as the operating system so im not willing to undo it at this point.

The only idea i have is you might wanna think about buying the Lenovo t61p and for $40 more you can have the original hard drive that has the product key matching the bottom of the laptop.

If you want to do any switching on your own hopefully that will work for you.
