Unless somebody wants to "give" you a Christmas present, I'd say $100 can buy a decent T2x-type system, maybe even a T23 in working condition. T4x for $100 is going to be very difficult to accomplish. Good luck though.

Try searching ebay, you can buy something like
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0110295928 and replace the fan, I think it will be close to your budget.

I more often see prices like that (from time to time)
on my local Craigslist, than I do here or on eBay.

Good luck for $100.......
not impossible--you just have to keep looking and get lucky...
I might be able to do a $200 T40, but that's pretty low anyway.

I have a couple of i1300's that have not made it to the charity yet.
I have never gotten them to run XP that fast.
Run the day lights out of 2000 pro
Well under your $100.00.
Cheapest Ive seen for a mainstream T series is $145.00

Umm, the shortened URL does not work, was there an error made during the admin edit?
Just the other day I was watching an auction for a T23 that sold for about that, incidentally. Pretty good machine except for lacking the built-in wireless.

maybe my memory is fuzzy but i recall a lot of off-leaseish t40's showing up here or on hardforum for about 100 bucks a peice.
the condition of them was rather poor but they ran. (hence the price)
200 is a good price for a t40 in good shape but i'm specifically looking for a beater pentium-m one.
A decent pentium 4 (t30?) would work as well.

I agree with the various posts, that a T40 in working condition would be hard to do in the sub-$200 range and you'd have to be VERY lucky. However, your last post rang a bell.
In terms of a "beater" machine, the T30 would be almost an ideal candidate. They are easy to find in your price range and they will probably take abuse a little better than the T4x series.

I agree on schen's point that the T40 machines don't like to take a beating. They are solid little machines if you take an extreme care of them.

No, it was working when I made the change. It was for a T21 system which had a Buy-it-Now for $145. I searched the completed listings for this system and it did not appear. For some reason eBay must have removed the item from the database.
Edit: Never mind... I did have the wrong number

(It's still active, not completed)

Not a bad little unit, considering its age: the only physical
defect I see is the broken cover around the ejection buttons
for the card slot. But its physical config is another story:
that 256MB and 10GB HD call for spending more money right
off the bat, IMHO. Might be a great machine for converting to
Linux to play around with.
