For sale we have a one of a kind custom built X41. The reason it is a custom machine is that is has a 120GB 5400rpm ZIF hard drive. The largest conventional drive available for the X41 is 60GB, 4200rpm. The battery is new and has one (1) cycle because I charged it to test it. Condition is very good with minor exterior scratches. There are a couple of scratches on the memory door, normal wear on the keyboard, and all letters are clear/visible. The LCD is bright and it has one small pressure mark at the extreme right edge of the LCD only visible on a white background. There are a few pencil point sized dust spots on the very bottom extreme edge of the LCD, and no dead pixels that I can see. It comes with a brand new dock, and I'll include a CDROM drive in the dock. Occasionally the CDROM drive has a problem reading DVD's, so you may want to consider replacing it with a combo CDRW/DVD drive. I'm just including it to get you started. I flashed it to the latest BIOS and Windows XP is freshly loaded with the recovery partition intact. There is a 2010 error on boot which is normal for this machine with a non-IBM approved hard drive in it. It is bypassed without keyboard intervention by a BIOS option and does not effect the operation of the drive or the machine.

Note: The drive alone is worth well over $200, because it can't be found for less presently. If I had $375 this machine would not be leaving this house ... did I mention that this hard drive is silent? ;-)

Does it generate a "beep" just like the T43?

Harry, did you confirm that all 120,000,000,000 bytes are seen by Windows? The reason I'm asking is that I once installed a 250GB WD HDD on my T43p. As expected, it gave an 2010 error (with the beep), but what I didn't expect was that not all of the 250,000,000,000 bytes were seen by Windows. I think it could see only 248 something. When I put that same drive into my T42, Windows could use all bytes.

You mean 4-cell, right?

Yes, (2) short beeps

XP disk management reports 111.79 GB total including the IBM_Service partition.

Yeah I guess so. I am not that familiar with X4X batteries. It doesn't stick out the back if that helps determine what it is.

I installed a 1GB stick of PC2-5300 RAM in the X41. Windows now sees 1.5GB RAM installed. I'll leave it installed for the new owner, same price.

Gosh, if I was in the market for something like this, I would snatch it now. Oh well. Really want one of those new X200. I want performance and portability. My current lappy serves its purpose just fine, though I wish it was smaller (15.4" widescreen machine.) Powerful, but just barely portable.
