I just upgraded to a 9-cell battery in my T42. My old 6-cell original IBM battery is in good shape, lasts about 2.5 hours. $50, plus actual shipping. Remind me how to check the cycles etc.?

The Battery Maximizer / Power Manager tool can give you all the information you need.

The important things would be:

Manufacturer
Manufacturing Date
First Used Date
Cycles
Design Capacity
Full Charge Capacity

WOW! That's an incredible deal, if they are new! I just paid $55 each for 2 batteries to be re-celled at batteryrefill.com (talk about "slow as molasses"!)

:?

These are not new, these are "scratch and dent".
Scratch and Dent
Products with cosmetic blemishes that meet the original factory specifications through retests and repackaging.

Scratch and Dent accessories meet the following criteria:
Returned with the factory seal broken.
Units may or may not have been used.
Product may or may not have been turned on.
Product has cosmetic blemishes.

Hopefully, Lenovo wouldn't send out a battery with gazillions of cycles on it and 2.0Wh of capacity left in it!

The battery I ordered from the Lenovo Outlet link arrived today. It came in a normal packaging box with a sticker on the box reading "Used". It appears new.

Battery Max & Thinkpad Configuration are showing a "first used date" of 2008/07. Cycle count is "1".

YMMV, but I'm satisfied.

I picked up a T61 battery last week. It wasn't "scratch" or "dent", it was new with 0 cycles on it. I assume that it was put in the "scratch & dent" category because it was made about six months ago. Perhaps Lenovo has a shelf life for batteries sold as new or in new systems?

Anyway, no reputable manufacturer would sell a damaged battery! Too much liability.

The pricing is great. Get them while they last!

It wasn't obvious which of the seven batteries on the Lenovo Outlet "Accessories > Batteries > Scratch and Dent" page was correct for my T41 [orig FRU:08K8193). I called the Lenovo sales guy to at least first cross-reference the part#s for T41; he says he's got no cross-reference, he just "knows" that "all except the 2nd from the left in top line are not for T-series" ..so just order the "ThinkPad T40/R50 Series 6 Cell Li-Ion Battery (Scratch and Dent) Part Number: CA51J0474". But once I finished 'Checkout', the item# shown on order was: 62532929, not 'CA51J0474'? ..so I'm hoping what arrives does in fact work as a 08K8193. If so, $36+tax, free S&H is good.

FWIW, the Lenovo "Scratch and Dent" battery arrived 3/25. Although the Outlet Store page did not show which FRU# it would be. I got a FRU:92P1087, which apparently also works with T41. Battery appears fine/as-new (no marks/defects), arrived in beat-up reused carton. MaxMiser reports: Sanyo, Mfr date 2008.03, capacity (as-is, uncharged) 2.6wh of 54wh, charge cycles=0.

Contrast with my current 2004 mfr 08K8193: 13.9wh capacity (of orig 52wh), 311 charge cycles.
