SOLD: Thinkpad Z61t 94428BU TITANIUM lid easyserv

#1 Post by minc3d » Thu Feb 12, 2009 2:47 pm

Hello All,

I am putting up a z61t for sale which I no longer need. The laptop has been kept in very good condition save for a small nick on the left bottom corner of the titanium lid. The laptop has served me well, and is truly one of the gems that Lenovo made in the Thinkpad line. Here are the specs on the unit:

Model: 94428BU
Warranty: Valid EasyServ until 11-02-09
OS: Windows XP Pro
Processor: Core 2 Duo T7200
Memory: 4GB DDR2 (2x 2GB)
Optical: DVD-RW MultiBurner
Hard Drive: 80GB
Ethernet: 10/100/1000 Gigabit
LCD: 14" 1440x900 Hi Res
Webcam: YES Built in to LCD
Video: Intel 945GM Onboard
WIFI: Thinkpad A/B/G Wifi by IBM
Battery: 2 month old 7 cell battery
AC: Yes one adapter

Case: Yes, I am including a black slip cover for this laptop!

I am pricing the unit off of the sale price of this thread off this forum: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=70661
The price that Z61t sold for was $426, but keep in mind that this unit has a faster processor, double the RAM, Win XP Pro over Vista Home, and the built in webcam which is VERY hard to find on Z61t's.

I am asking $535 shipped for this unit, anywhere to the CONT USA via FedEx Ground insured. I ship very quick, and only accept payment via PayPal. You can check my rating on ebay and on heatware at 100% under the same name I use on this forum. If you have any questions, please email me directly at dwtrash (at) gmail (dot) com since I dont answer PMs as often on here.

Offers will ALWAYS be considered!

Email me if you want pictures!

SOLD for $535 to a forum member!

As the person who ended up buying that Z61t from GnatGoSplat, and one who likes this model a lot, I can say that this one looks as a good deal.

Indeed as you point out, it has a few noticeable advantages over the 9440-A23 which I bought.

One thing that you didn't mention is the titanium lid. Personally, I really dislike it (which is why I was quick to jump on GnatGoSplat's offer, since it was the rare combination of black lid, WXGA+ and C2D I was looking for). However, my experience shows that many people will view the titanium lid as an advantage, and so it would add to the value of the laptop.

Also the warranty. Is it till Nov-2009 or Sep-2011? If it's the latter, it's just amazing.

BTW, are you sure the model number is accurate? 94428BU comes up at the Lenovo lookup as something somewhat different:
T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 4c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
RAM, HD and battery can easily be swapped, but did you change the CPU as well? Or is yours really a T2500? (which is also 2GHz, as T7200, but Core Duo and not Core 2 Duo)

In any case, the price seems right for someone who can appreciate a Z61t. IMO, it is much cooler than a T61/T400 to own, and this one is a high-specked one, so it can still pack a good punch. Unfortunately, the average person does not realize that this model is just as cool, and in some ways cooler than a T-series. But, hey, it's the Thinkpad forum - if you can find an enthusiast somewhere, it is here!

Good luck with your sale. :D

nice machine.
I think the op should specify any upgrade/non-OEM parts 'cause they are usually not covered under IBM warranty!
Correct me if wrong, I am somehow under the impression that you need to have the original CPU to keep valid warranty status on the entire machine?
That's the reason I didn't upgrade the processor on my T60.

The laptop I am selling above has been HEAVILY upgraded and yes, the CPU, RAM, and HDD are all swapped in for better components than what it came with.

The upgrades cost me around $200 back when I did them last year, so I think the small price premium on this unit is reasonable. The warranty expires in Nov of this year, not 2011 :) I WISH it were til 2011!

Lastly, yes, the model I posted is accurate. The titanium lid is a bonus I think as it has a LOT less flex than the standard IBM mixed black lid and is VERY resistant to scratches and nicks. Not to mention it is VERY easy to clean with a lukewarm wet cloth, something which the black lid makes difficult and sometimes leaves streaks on.

I have almost the same exact machine and I love it. No (major) complaints.

You listed 4GB RAM but everyone keeps saying that the Z61t has a 3GB RAM limit, what does the system recognize?

Under 32 bit XP and Vista it only sees 3GB but when I ran Vista x64 last year for a bit, it saw all 4gb.

Yes, Vista64 will recognize all 4GB but applications will still only be able to access 3GB, due to the chipset limitations.

Techically you are right. Moreover, even if you had the original CPU, but the service people could somehow find out that you tinkered with it, they can in principle deny the warranty on the machine. In practice, unless you send it there for a dead mobo/CPU fan, the chances of them noticing are very small, and the chances of them caring are even smaller. However, it is true that this fact should be considered, which is why I asked.

Ive sent in the machine for warranty service WITH my new Core 2 Duo installed and service was neither denied nor questioned. This was on two seperate occassions.

So yes perhaps they could on principle deny us but I have yet to see it.

Email me if you want photos of the laptop; I am also including a slip cover with this laptop for whoever purchases the unit at no extra cost.

A couple of questions:
1. What's up with these gratuitous bumps? Is this a new way to avoid the 72 hour bump rule?
2. What was the reason for the warranty claims? Is it normal for these machines to need servicing that often?

How else do you expect me to respond to questions? I am not in any way breaking the rules of the system by posting answers to others' questions.

And the machine wasnt serviced for anything major actually. One was a CMOS battery that prematurely died and the other was a CPU fan that needed replacement due to excessive bearing noise - none of which exemplify the high quality of this excellent system.

WOW...you guys are being tough on this poor fellow. :D

I think some lucky dog is going to get this hotrod Z61t. I can tell you this is a great laptop because I have one. Mine has run flawless and makes a nice machine for travel, desktop, kitchen, and Starbucks. You get the picture. The webcam and built in microphone make for a perfect combination if you like to use Skype or Yahoo Messenger. OK...it is a little skimpy on the video but the latest drivers can run Vista Aero just fine and XP is a screamer. Windows 7 beta runs perfect.

Also, remember this puppy has FireWire, SD slot, and just about every input and output you would ever need. And the lid is beautiful...mine looks like the day it came out of the box. I can't say the same for all my other ThinkPads.

Remember he said he is open to offers...it's a fair price for a rare laptop you can't get anymore.

I guess you could consider me a marketing manager for Z61t's...I like 'em.
