The New 9-cell battery is for the X41 Tablet only as I don't believe there is a X40 Tablet model.

Reply to the question on battery charger.
Yes, you can charger the battery separate form the laptop. How ever, you do need a power adapter to power the charger.
The charger does not have build in power adapter.

I do have a non OEM AC/DC APC charger I can sell for $15 shipped (It is heavy, weighing at slightly over 1lb sans accessories ( tips for laptops, power plug for different countries and a USB charging socket. 90 or 120W.

That's okay. Still, does that model of charger work with the X41 Tablet packs?

It is designed for T4x/R5x series batteries but I do use it for X41 Tbalet When I still own the X41 Tablet. However, I recall that that X41T AC Adapters outputs a higher Voltage (19V) than the T4x Thinkpad adapters (16V, If I remember correctly). I did not notice any ill effect on my X41T battery though.
