Two 256 MB PC133 RAM chips for sale/trade (need pc100 chips)

#1 Post by killabee44 » Fri Jan 28, 2005 3:29 pm

Hi all,

A relative of mine purchased two 256 mb 133mhz chips for me as a present. They got it from someone they know that was selling them and since I needed the upgrade, thought it would make a good present.

Well, I have a T22 laptop and as you all know it needs PC100 chips. The guy does not want to refund them.

Now Im trying to get rid of these and get the correct ones. I know the PC133's I have are more expensive but I would be willing to trade them evenly for some PC100's since that is what I need.

I could also sell them. They go for about $60-$65.00 usd each. I really would like to trade instead.

These are 8 chip (high density). Model on the sticker says: MT8LSDT3264HG-133C2. It has a logo with an "M".

If anyone is interested plz post here.

PC133 memory is LESS expensive than PC100 lo-density memory! Usually by a substantial margin.

If you go to www.crucial.com and check pricing, you'll see that a PC100 256MB stick for your T22 is around $120. A PC133 256MB stick for a T30 is only $48!

At least the memory you have is Micron manufactured, although a generic stick and not a Crucial part. I hope your relative didn't pay more than about $80 total for that memory!

A PC133 is not compatible with PC100?
I thought it was...

Thinkpads are notoriously fickle when it comes to memory. The 600E/X and early T/A/X machines all require lo-density memory (e.g. a 256MB stick will have 8 memory chips on each side) and lo-density PC133 memory is about as rare as hen's teeth.

:D My mistake. I was told otherwise about the prices of the ram. PC133 maybe is cheaper because it is more common? Thanks for the info.

Nevertheless I still need pc100 ram. If anyone is interested plz let me know.

Probably. I've read a number of reports that state that there are some PC133 sticks out there that will work in early T/A/X series machines, but I've never actually seen any.

Not just thinkpads. I've owned a compaq desktop that didn't like PC133 memory even though that type of ram is supposed to 'clock down' and still be compatible.

Yes, PC100 RAM is rare, probably because 1- it is older 2- some machines are particular about ONLY working with pc100 ram (and nothing else), so it tends to stay in the machine using it (instead of being parted out for $$$).

I have a 16 component PC133 256MB that's in my Transnote now, works perfect, also works in my X20...

16 component PC133 256MB are somewhat rare, but they are around and you see them on EBay from time to time.

What is NOT as rare is 8 component PC100 256MB, and they do NOT work in the older TPs.

The lesson? As far as I am concerned, it's not PC100 vs PC133, it's 8 component vs 16 that's key.

And lasly, yes, 16 component PC133 256MB SODIMMs are price the same as 16 component PC100 256MB SODIMMs, no breaks.

That's what I said, you need lo-density RAM and finding it in PC133 is more difficult than finding it in PC100.
