SOLD: T42 15" FlexView SXGA+/1.8G/1GB/80GB/Combo/BT/ABG/Fngr

SOLD to forum member: T42 with 15" FlexView SXGA+ LCD is very good to excellent condition, but has the typical, minor LCD defects that can occur with FlexView LCD's. It has two areas of gray pixel clumps and the lower right and left corners have small shadows. The LCD is still bright and looks great while using, it is just not perfect. Other than slight keyboard and palmrest shine and light scuffs on the cover, it is really nice. It has great spec.'s and the fingerprint reader, rare for a T42. It's a nice machine, I'm just describing all the minor cosmetic issues. One unique thing about this unit, the label on the bottom says "Assembled in the US of US and non-US components for Lenovo". I've seen units made in China, Japan and Mexico, but never the US.

sounds like a nice thinkpad..
if there is still warranty on it why not go for a replacement display..?
get the call in tonight and deliver it as a near perfect thinkpad..

T42 was ont of the best..

I know, I know...

I sent it in about two weeks ago and they gave me the line about pressure marks and how they put the LCD in some kind of "oven" that proved it was pressure?! They didn't even want to discuss the dark corners. Anyway, I really didn't feel like arguing and escalating, since normally I don't have to and because the LCD isn't really that bad - it is bright.

If someone wants it before tomorrow at midnight, I'll call it in for them and have the repair box sent to them. They can try to convince Lenovo to replace the LCD, if they don't just do it this time.

I had a similar experience. I sent a T43 in twice for a bad screen and they claimed it was water damage. I then repaired it myself and discovered that the repair depot put a sticker on the back of the lcd display that read "scrap". I gave up and decided it more easy to repair it myself. BTW...I found no water damage.

Good luck selling the T42...it sounds like a nice laptop.

Yep, good luck with the sale. It's a great unit. One of my favorites. My old and trusty T42 (which is now used by my sister) is very similar to this one (2373-F7G). This one is remarkable since it was purchased new in April 2006, probably one of the latest T42 units ever.

Regarding LCD marks. The dark shadows in the corners are normal and are present on over 50% of the IPS LCDs I've used. I wouldn't even mention them as cosmetic defects.

"Areas of gray pixel clumps" sounds to me like dust specs, which is a famous problem of these IPS LCDs as well, since they seem to acquire them more easily than other LCDs (although I now have this non-IPS panel with a dust spec inside it). In any case, most of these dust specs (if indeed this is what they are) do not disturb work. Sometimes they can move inside the LCD, and out of sight (happened to me).
