SOLD: Compaq Armada E500

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:25 pm

I'm looking to get $25 for this system; price includes shipping within the continental United States. Will ship to Canada but that'll result in a higher price to compensate for shipping.

I will also trade this laptop for a 5400rpm hard drive (PATA, any size over 40gb), a good condition 600 series palmrest and keyboard (no paint worn off). I'll also trade for a Pentium III MMC-2 module if it's 750mhz or faster or a working laptop of any vintage (since I wouldn't expect anyone to trade anything with a vintage newer than '96 or '97 for this thing in it's condition).

The keyboard is glitchy (function keys don't work), the case has some cracks in it and the LCD hinges are shot (there's also a crack in the lid above the right hinge). LCD shows a vivid and bright picture. Battery is dead. I also didn't realize I was out of thermal paste until after I cleaned off the fan and cpu so before using, you'll need to apply a new layer of thermal paste.

Hard drive and ac adapter are not included. Hard drive caddy and cover present.

Specs:
900mhz Pentium III
no memory
10/100 Ethernet and 56k modem both internal
14.1" XGA LCD (TFT)
4mb ATI Rage
Internal 24x CD and 1.44mb floppy
ThinkPad T60: 2GHZ CD T2500, 3gb RAM, 14.1" XGA, 60gb 7k100, Win 7 Ult
Latitude E7250: i5 5300U 2.3ghz, 12gb RAM, 12" 1080p touch, 256gb SSD, Win 10

I had a couple of these E500s and then sold them to friends. True workhorses, both are still going strong. These are the most solid built PIIIs one could imagine. Perhaps tougher than Thinkpads, with the exception of those hinges. I know they outlasted my T23 by a long shot.

It's built-in speakers are excellant. Two battery bays is a great feature as well.

Somebody who wants to check out original Compaq quality should pick this guy up - the hinges are easy enough to change and there is a hardware manual for it just like Thinkpads. Plenty of parts on Ebay.

Had one of these too... crammed 3 batteries in there. IIRC it only takes upto 512mb ram though.

LCD works fine. No blemishes, no scratches and the image shows up bright and vivid. You just need to replace the housing.
